Very exciting and close race. For these elections, I always try to get a local angle for impressions of candidates (especially in this case where party ID isnโt clear).
Their subreddit in particular has been very illuminating - mixed support, no strong opinions. Will be interesting!

Right now, NASA operates more like a jobs program that works towards space advancements. If you take a look at SLS procurement, all 50 states are involved - which sounds great! But it reduces operational efficiency leading to much longer timelines to launch.
Regardless, more NASA money is a win.

Agreed! Iโm a big proponent of 1% of the federal budget for NASA (for reference, weโre currently around 0.4%)
One key change we need though to truly make it an effective 21st century space agency is adjusting its procurement requirements.

Itโll get there, not thanks to Elon but because of the wider SpaceX team. We all need to give him less airtime and focus on their exciting work.
Also appreciate your writing - one of the reasons I subscribed!

A lot of amazing and intelligent people work at SpaceX and are doing some incredible stuff. Confident theyโll figure this out - obviously would be nice if this was a reliable launch vehicle by flight 9, but SpaceX has the capital (from Starlink profitability alone!) to continue to iterate.

Totally agree with the glazing from SpaceX PR / Elonโฆthe livecast was hard to watch. Ship clearly lost attitude control and the reps were like โthis is GREAT ๐ฅด๐ฅด๐ฅดโ
Do want to callout that weโve had plenty of rocket losses in the past - we think of Apollo 11, but plenty of hardships to get there.

K2-18b is back in the news, now with a bold claim that biosignature molecules (DMS and/or DMDS) have been 'detected at 3ฯ'.
Most exoplanet astronomers are extremely sceptical about these claims, let's see why (1/n).

A large majority of the public, 83%, say the president must obey a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, while 17% say the president has the power to ignore such a ruling. The percentage saying he must obey a ruling has increased slightly from 79% in December to 83% in March.

James: "The Trump team didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

Screenshot of Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick's tweet that reads: Today, along with a group of my colleagues (@RepMikeLawler, @RepDonBacon, @RepMikeTurner, @RepLaLota, @RepGarbarino, @RepBresnahan, & Rep. Chris Smith), I called on President Trump to reconsider his Executive Order regarding collective bargaining rights of unionized federal workers.
We support efforts to improve government efficiencyโbut applying sweeping national security exemptions to agencies like SSA, FCC, GSA, and HHS risks doing more harm than good. These agencies are vital to public service. Undermining collective bargaining in these spaces weakens morale, accountability, and performance.
Thatโs why, alongside this letter, I introduced the Protect Americaโs Workforce Act with @RepGolden. This bipartisan bill restores a responsible, targeted approachโpreserving bargaining rights and reinforcing the role that the workerโs voice plays in strengthening government.
We donโt have to choose between security and fairness. We canโand mustโprotect both.
Protecting the collective bargaining rights of workers isn't a partisan issue. We thank Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and all the House Republicans who are urging President Trump to reconsider his executive order eliminating federal workers' collective bargaining rights.

Glad that the Atlanta Fed is now showing its "gold-adjusted" measure on its GDP Now chart. Still suggests it will be a very weak quarter (+0.2%), but the sharp contraction in the main model is the result of an anomaly and shouldn't be taken literally. #EconSky

One of the wildest stories Iโve ever read. Truly a massive problem that indicates deeply improper security procedure (have we forgotten about SCIFs?)
Share far and wide - at minimum, the administration has to re-evaluate their infosec. At maximum, congress needs to investigate ASAP.
