Very exciting and close race. For these elections, I always try to get a local angle for impressions of candidates (especially in this case where party ID isnโ€™t clear).

Their subreddit in particular has been very illuminating - mixed support, no strong opinions. Will be interesting!

Right now, NASA operates more like a jobs program that works towards space advancements. If you take a look at SLS procurement, all 50 states are involved - which sounds great! But it reduces operational efficiency leading to much longer timelines to launch.

Regardless, more NASA money is a win.

Agreed! Iโ€™m a big proponent of 1% of the federal budget for NASA (for reference, weโ€™re currently around 0.4%)

One key change we need though to truly make it an effective 21st century space agency is adjusting its procurement requirements.

Itโ€™ll get there, not thanks to Elon but because of the wider SpaceX team. We all need to give him less airtime and focus on their exciting work.

Also appreciate your writing - one of the reasons I subscribed!

A lot of amazing and intelligent people work at SpaceX and are doing some incredible stuff. Confident theyโ€™ll figure this out - obviously would be nice if this was a reliable launch vehicle by flight 9, but SpaceX has the capital (from Starlink profitability alone!) to continue to iterate.

Totally agree with the glazing from SpaceX PR / Elonโ€ฆthe livecast was hard to watch. Ship clearly lost attitude control and the reps were like โ€œthis is GREAT ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿฅดโ€

Do want to callout that weโ€™ve had plenty of rocket losses in the past - we think of Apollo 11, but plenty of hardships to get there.

K2-18b is back in the news, now with a bold claim that biosignature molecules (DMS and/or DMDS) have been 'detected at 3ฯƒ'.

Most exoplanet astronomers are extremely sceptical about these claims, let's see why (1/n).

A large majority of the public, 83%, say the president must obey a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, while 17% say the president has the power to ignore such a ruling. The percentage saying he must obey a ruling has increased slightly from 79% in December to 83% in March.

Screenshot of Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick's tweet that reads: Today, along with a group of my colleagues (@RepMikeLawler, @RepDonBacon, @RepMikeTurner, @RepLaLota, @RepGarbarino, @RepBresnahan, & Rep. Chris Smith), I called on President Trump to reconsider his Executive Order regarding collective bargaining rights of unionized federal workers.

We support efforts to improve government efficiencyโ€”but applying sweeping national security exemptions to agencies like SSA, FCC, GSA, and HHS risks doing more harm than good. These agencies are vital to public service. Undermining collective bargaining in these spaces weakens morale, accountability, and performance.

Thatโ€™s why, alongside this letter, I introduced the Protect Americaโ€™s Workforce Act with @RepGolden. This bipartisan bill restores a responsible, targeted approachโ€”preserving bargaining rights and reinforcing the role that the workerโ€™s voice plays in strengthening government.

We donโ€™t have to choose between security and fairness. We canโ€”and mustโ€”protect both.

Protecting the collective bargaining rights of workers isn't a partisan issue. We thank Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and all the House Republicans who are urging President Trump to reconsider his executive order eliminating federal workers' collective bargaining rights.

My recap of this morning's February JOLTS data.

TL;DR: Labor market turnover was decent, with hiring and quits remaining stableโ€ฆ but given what businesses are telling us about their hiring/firing plans, it's hard not to worry about future data.

Glad that the Atlanta Fed is now showing its "gold-adjusted" measure on its GDP Now chart. Still suggests it will be a very weak quarter (+0.2%), but the sharp contraction in the main model is the result of an anomaly and shouldn't be taken literally. #EconSky

One of the wildest stories Iโ€™ve ever read. Truly a massive problem that indicates deeply improper security procedure (have we forgotten about SCIFs?)

Share far and wide - at minimum, the administration has to re-evaluate their infosec. At maximum, congress needs to investigate ASAP.

Cracks beginning to show. Demonstrates concern not just among the members stated below, but also likely the strategic levers they utilize (think defense contractor lobbies, think tanks, and the intermediaries from the military itself)

Talk is the first domino. Watch their actions.

Hourly workers' wage growth decelerating while salaried workers' growth holding higher.

2021-2022 was quite a unique period in that hourly workers enjoyed faster wage growth than salaried workers.

No other time it's happened in last 3 decades.

A Startup Linked to Peter Thiel Wants to Build the "Next Great City" in Greenland Funded to the tune of $525 million, Praxis aims to โ€œrevitalize Western Civilizationโ€ through a techno-libertarian city upon a hill

I encourage everyone to read more about this movement - itโ€™s nimble, quiet, and has built an expansive network of political infrastructure with blank checks from bought-in wealthy proponents. The administrationโ€™s messaging on this initiative will be telling.

โ€œFreedom citiesโ€ are an attempt to begin implementation of this anti-democratic worldview at home, which supporters hope will compliment ongoing movements elsewhere (see Praxis, Prรณspera, etc.)

The goal has always been obtaining sufficient autonomy from the nations theyโ€™re located in.
