really interesting that we don’t have a cultural panic about group think and intellectual homogeneity among the most powerful money men in the country. all the more interesting when a bunch of them have clearly lost their mind.

it would not take much, if any, work for them to learn literally anything about the actual experience of a classroom for the vast majority of students in american higher ed

We took my son and his favorites are the Hope the High Road, Alabama Pines and Tupelo. 2/3! but he knew a lot of the others (and I really like the arrangements of the songs from Foxes in the Snow). Especially how they played Bury Me and Crimson and Clay (like you mentioned before). Outstanding!

The Lyric show was the first time I saw them in concert; was mesmerized by the musicianship. Tonight ‘s show was just BIG. So much energy!! It was still world class musicianship but his voice was amazing and the version of “Bury Me” was so unique! All those dudes can flat out PLAY and SING!

If you grew up in a household with an evangelical right-wing parent, as I did, you already know that the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Education, like the reversal of Roe v. Wade, is the culmination of a 50-year project.

"Luis" has picked cherries for 12 years. He says things get harder every year as the pay is not increasing. Plus there are seasons seasons where the fruit is not good. However he is skilled at this work, so he keeps on doing it to feed his family. #WeFeedYou

the other thing is that no one who fetishizes manual labor actually cares to improve life for people who are in those circumstances! no support for unionization or a generous welfare state! no interest in policies that make life easier for people who work their hands or afford them more autonomy!

Rublev played at his absolute peak today and lost in four sets to an Alcaraz who I’m pretty sure was watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force inside his head for most of the match

It’s weird to think about how the “good news” is that a lot of the funding the budget bill sets aside for ICE will simply get stolen by kleptocrats but that’s how “war is a racket” works

This is not a template for a sustainable future. Great for the labs that can get it, but private equity is not going to fund the curiosity-driven basic science that lays the ground work for future innovation 🧪

There is only one side in American politics that consistently supports and endorses political violence. People need to stop being afraid to say so.

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

Have ICE protests made Los Angeles too dangerous to live in? We asked three scowling retirees at a Shoney's in Branson.

it also makes me think about how wrong media must have gotten other city-based events. like I was in DC for 2020 and that did feel chaotic as hell but I wasn't in, say, Portland or Minneapolis. I'm in LA now and I cannot tell you how much nothing is happening in 99% of the area.

Nothing like getting sanctimonious law and order lectures from Republicans who refused to vote convict Trump after 1/6.
