The analytics are a matter of perspective though. An intentional walk in that scenario increases your odds of allowing 0 runs but increases your odds of allowing multiple runs. So it’s a philosophical/preference thing rather than a right/wrong thing.

1st inning is likely the answer. Most teams don't IBB as often as the Jays do, so to give the Jays potential for a bigger inning with a free runner + show lack of confidence in Schlittler early wasn't worth it to them. That'd be my guess.
