Beavers are great eco-engineers. I worked on building beaver dam analogs (BDAs) as a take on areas that once had beavers in abundance. Like actual beaver construction, they are only temporary and meant to last a handful of years. Amazing creatures.

Correct. But it’s also planting the ones that are endemic or native to the area. Which can be tricky as wildlife has adapted to the absence of trees and large shrubs. Spending ££ now on those projects is better than spending for flood recovery. Plus it adds to the beauty in which we can visit.

I tried to convince a department at Newcastle Uni to let me do research on wildland fires but they said there was no money in it. But the increasing intensity of floods and fires needs to be looked at further before it becomes irreparable and unmanageable.

There are rewilding projects going on tho in Scotland 😍
