Images from the linked preprint showing Wingless stainings in the Drosophila wing imaginal disc. Targeting vps15 with two indepependent RNAi lines (paper also shows the same with a third line) does not result in a phenotype. In contrast, targeting vps15 with two independent sgRNA constructs and Cas9 results in strong accumulation of Wingless protein in perturbed cells.
Why use #CRISPR in #Drosophila when RNAi works so well? Because for some genes well is not good enough.
Check out new preprint from the lab demonstrating a role for Vps15 in Wingless trafficking. Something that was missed in several RNAi screens.

A photo of a young Lilian Vaughan Morgan, sitting with a book on her lab staring into the distance.
A photo of an older Lilian Vaughan Morgan, sitting at a lab bench with a microscope and dozens of glass milk bottles bunged with cotton. Lilian is in the middle of applying ether to anaesthetize a bottle of flies.
This #InternationalWomensDay I want to tell the story of Lilian Vaughan Morgan. I learned of Lilian this past year - what a badass.
Lilian was a leading scientist when women weren't welcome in the lab, nor even the department. But she contributed immensely to the genetics of sex determination

De toute façon ce sont deux choses différentes. Les labos ne sont pas forcément dans la même section que les chercheurs et inversement. Ça n’a pas d’incidence particulière. L’important est que la section soit capable d’évaluer votre travail.

I hope this paper gets the attention it deserves in the #Drosophila community! Many common "tissue-specific" Gal4 driver lines may have more off-target expression than originally reported. Behold this table and weep for your favorite Gal4. doi.org/10.1002/dvg....
