Definitely. I went with PikaOS since they make good custom package installs based on Debian, which updates slowly, but with very high stability. I feel like getting off Windows is worth any experimental inconvenience at this point. Kubuntu seems like a great and popular way to go right now.

So, I would actually advise against dual booting with enshittified Windows. Just clone for a back up and wipe that shit out.

Another pitfall is that Microsoft hates seeing Linux dual-boots. They will actively sabotage the GRUB or rEFIND install of your boot loader to make it appear that Linux is unbootable. You have to boot a recovery linux and use the terminal command:
sudo update initfarims -c -k all
to fix it.

But over-all, i'd say just say clone your drive, mess around with Linux distro and see if you can get your features working. Microsoft has turned your computer into e-waste, so there's nothing to lose. If it really fails, then just clone that Windows back-up back to the laptop drive.

A very interesting thing to consider is that you can install different desktop environments in Linux that match your preference. There's GNOME, which is the Linux poster-child, but I like KDE Plasma since it's very familiar to windows users, and has a lot of compatibility features.

Mint or Ubuntu are a very good beginner-freindly distro. Red Hat is supported by business and corporate interests and has a lot of compatibility, especially with AMD workstation drivers. nVidia hates Linux and refuses to be compatible with it, so people are forced to work around it.

I found a quick search result for reviving a surface with Linux. maybe a more specific search would be to find a way to make the touch screen interface compatible. Ditros are free, and I think it's a good idea to just play with them.

Linux is a capable system, but but gets a bad rep for things not working on it. But that's not the fault of Linux, it's the fault of corpos not supporting it. there's a a surprising amount of work around for it, though. A Linux Surface sounds like it'd be very useful.

I don't have any experience with that. I'd still but still consider myself to be a Linux novice. I'dd probably just get some copy of clonezilla and clone the windows install onto a back-up disc, then just try some distros to see if they can work.

I've got an AMD WX6600 card that does something like 120w max. I have problems with it working with cycles in Blender on Linux (PikaOS), however it games like a dream, ironically. It runs Krita, GPU Screen Recorder, and OBS with games no problem. Workstation graphics is great for low-wattage.
