"faculty governance" is window dressing that offers a facade of consent. A committee with more deans than professors and a charge that assumes the outcome is just a pointless exercise

I'm tired of being treated like a crank because I want to uphold the integrity of the institution and of education more generally. I'm tired of my opinions, shaped by hours and hours of research, being dismissed because they don't align with what admin already decided they wanted

lol this post reminded me of the "advisor" I got assigned freshman year at App State who straight up told me "girls aren't smart enough to major in math". This wasn't even the 90s, this was 2008 🙃 I can't even imagine how much more sexist he was in the 90s

If you’ll recall, the “antisemitism” at UCLA involved primarily campus police allowing Zionist counter protesters to attack the pro-Palestinian camps (incl. many Jewish participants) while they did nothing, and arresting the anti-genocide students & faculty afterwards.

learn to be friends with women WITHOUT the motivation of trying to fuck them, and you’ll not only have an amazing group of people to go to for advice, but it turns out that men who treat women like actual whole human beings are more attractive than men who treat women as objects to be pursued.

i actually think a major problem across much of society is lack of understanding that deserving something is not the same thing as being owed something.

everyone is deserving of love, but (aside from one’s parents) no one *owes* us love.

everyone is deserving of intimacy, but no one owes it to us.

I’m truly disappointed in @oclc.org for laying off some of its excellent Research staff. They lead library and archives conversations and shift entire ways of thinking about our work. What a myopic move.
