Plenty of us hate our own football teams half the time…but we almost always want the plucky underdog to win.

Absolutely agree it is harder but cruising speeds vary so much between riders I would be happy to wager that what e-bikes have done is bring up the average cruising pace of the general public.

Not saying an ebike will always keep up with a regular bike (weight etc. all good points) but the speed for all bikes is limited by the rider’s power first so a stronger rider can use assistance and still power on at decent speeds when it cuts out.

I don’t find it a massive problem, sure I can accelerate faster on my road bike but I have clocked 30mph on my e-bike (assistance stopped at 15mph)

Only with the assistance, riders can still pedal faster without the assistance when it cuts out so probably the same speed as a regular bike (rider permitting).
