Katie Wilson, 43, is poised to become Seattle’s next mayor after overtaking incumbent Bruce Harrell by about 1,300 votes in one of the city’s tightest races on record. A longtime organizer, Wilson co-founded the Transit Riders Union, a grassroots group that campaigns for affordable transit, higher corporate taxes, and stronger renter protections. She ran on an ambitious plan to build 4,000 new shelter units and expand non-police public safety programs. If her lead holds, Seattle Times reporter David Kroman writes Wilson would become Seattle’s most progressive mayor in over a decade, and a sharp break from the city’s centrist establishment.

Katie Wilson is now almost certainly Seattle's 58th mayor. We spoke just now: "We’re going to wait for all of the ballots to be counted, but I think we won this race."

I’m pretty sure β€œZohran being a nice normal mayor” is the thing they were actually afraid of

it's funny how much the NY Post fear mongered about Zohran and he's just being a normie demsoc mayor

Katie Wilson's win, plus the massive margins of victory for three progressive City Council candidates (just one incumbent) and a progressive City Attorney candidate suggest an overwhelming mandate for bold policy initiatives on housing and public safety. Let's go, Seattle!

Seattle media, tonight, is going as close as possible to saying Katie Wilson won the mayoral raceΒ β€”Β without phrasing it as entirely final. (Which is all very defensible at this stage.)

Seattle is shaping up to be the left's second big mayoral win, a sort of West Coast companion to NYC.

One of my hospice patients told me that on the ship that took him to fight in WWII he hated to sleep below bc it smelled. So he crept on deck & slept on bags of cargo. He said there were more stars than black. He said they reflected off the water. He said it was dazzling.

I’m no great fan of the ACA.

I believe we should guarantee health care as a human right through a single-payer Medicare for All system.

But β€” at minimum β€” we cannot allow Republicans to destroy our already-broken system by doubling insurance premiums for 20 million Americans.

Joyce Carol Oates
@Joyce... 17h O
So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciatesβ€” scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend's or relative's accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the
"most wealthy person in the world."

50 years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald, a 'rock star' ship, sank in Lake Superior Twenty-nine sailors drowned when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down in the Great Lakes' icy waters on Nov. 10, 1975. The ship was immortalized in a surprise hit 1976 folk ballad by Gordon Lightfoot.

if you see anyone expressing shock that a candidate who exudes warmth and authenticity and wants to improve the quality of life for working class people won over a rapist whose entire campaign was
"that guys a terrorist" that's not a smart person. you don't have to listen to that person anymore.
