12 years ago I got some dandelions and bluebonnets on my right shoulder to commemorate finishing TJ AND AMAL. Since then I've added (a) flower(s) for every comic project I've been proud of. Today the sleeve got finished.

Yesss I fully agree!! I think it’s not a term thats derived from an actual genre, instead from “how do we make as much money as stardew”
I think itd be better if the genre was renamed “fail forward games”, and had aesthetic as a tag instead of a genre. Farming already falls into simulation games.

Even when we’ve discussed it in the gamedev sphere coziness has a few commonalities but not a defining set of features. Coziness =/ farming but farming is typically implemented without quicktime events and without bankruptcy so it often feels cozy. But in oxygen not included it doesn’t feel as cozy.

This is legit something we talk about in gamedev circles! How theres a few things it generally entails. Limited failstates/permanent consequences, gracious or no time limits, etc. but also as you play a game more and become desensitized to the points of tension, a lot of games can feel “cozy.”
