An old, dog-eared novel, a grizzly hide rug, the corniest puns wrapped in baritone hugs, black licorice toffee, something absurd, and a musical number with too many words.

Watching the NDP leadership debate, and trying to distinguish between the candidates.

1. Work somewhere as a 20 year old student.
2. Get a job in that same place roughly 15 years later.
3. Work there for a further 15 years.
4. Work with 20 year old students.

And time occasionally feels very wonky.

5 things I like:
- playing with words, stories, and myths.
- imagining better worlds.
- affectionate connection.
- singalongs.
- understanding.

I'm probably going to have to look internationally, if I really want to do this.

Starting to look around to see if anyone is accepting submissions. Most of the Canadian board game publishers I've found are small companies that formed to publish their own games, and aren't looking for outside submissions. I'm also finding a lot of dead links to no-longer-existing websites.

Right? I just hadn't thought of it.

I'm loving the amendments (usually cuts) followed by "explain to me how everything works" questions. Learning about things you're about to cut at the meeting is good decision making, if you ask me.

I was beginning to look at how to get my card game into stores. Apparently, it's usually publishers that do that.

I didn't realize that boardgames have publishers. Seems obvious, in retrospect.

I signed. Get to it, Canucks! We need to protect what we've got before it's lost capitalist interests that make us poorer and less healthy. #CdnPoli #Canada

This happened to me when I had a job that was half circulation and half reference. I remember mentioning that going from me being the only person working two desks some late evenings to me being the only person working one desk was to my advantage, I couldn't see how this would save money.

Well, sure, if you said your hunky librarian was *happy* to be at work, the premise might fall apart.

I'd watch this.

I know I worked Christmas Eve in a few different public libraries, and Dec. 23 in university libraries. I'm pretty sure I worked a few Christmas Eves in a university library less than 10 years ago, but my memory is iffy. It's plausible, at least.

These ridiculous mega-projects like "datacenters in space" (doomed by thermodynamics) make a LOT more sense when you realize they're massive Ponzi schemes designed to transfer wealth from pension funds to VC's through "fee stacking."

It's the old Assets Under Management con. It should be illegal.

This is a legitimate scientific revolution in meteorology.

Also, to be clear, these models are not the AI LLMs that most people are familiar with. They are machine learning algorithms trained on observations (actually reanalysis).

I mean I have been enraged about this topic for a while, but I had also never actually figured out how they calculate the poverty line.

I am legitimately speechless.

What these "keep taxes low" muni politicians fail to realize is that, for low income people, property taxes are the LEAST of their worries. Cuts to services on the other hand increase other expenses dramatically.

I believe there are still a few city councillors who need their own copy of this poster version of the cost of sprawl venn diagram (w/ explanatory notes). I should drop those off soon. #yqrcc

All off this.

In addition A long standing rule I've learned is "if it can't be changed/fixed within a minute don't bring it up"

They got sowmthing in their teeth, a zipper slid down, a button undone mention it

If not, let it be unless absolutely necessary

Ben Collins, from β€˜The Onion’: β€˜The powerful have a revenge fantasy, it’s the revenge of the dorks’ The CEO of the leading US satirical website explains what to do when reality is crazy, and how he is trying to buy the website of a famous conspiracy theorist

I love and admire Ben for many reasons, and one of them is how perfectly he is able to distill the pathetic-ness of the right and instill hope and solidarity in everyone else around him.

Anyway, go read his interview with the biggest Spanish newspaper here: english.elpais.com/technology/2...

I try to focus this account so it's for my readers, but hey writers:

NEVER sign a contract where the publisher keeps your rights indefinitely. For short stories, there should be a point when you can sell reprints.

and NEVER sign your movie/TV/etc adaptation rights to a publisher. Those are yours.

Defining boardgames broadly, and probably forgetting some:

Well, y'see (my own creation)
Boggle
Balderdash
Telestrations
Scattergories
Pass the Pigs
Sequence
Timeline
Chrononauts
About half of the Unlock Escape adventures

I feel this way about almost all the examples people have replied to you with. People were loudly rewriting a bunch of these events while they were still happening.

What to know about Shaun Semple's pursuit of new baseball stadium for Regina Red Sox Brandt CEO Shaun Semple, who owns the Regina Red Sox, wants to see movement on a new baseball stadium in Regina β€” possibly as soon as 2026.

Textbook case of how wealthy elite in Saskatchewan exercise their influence.

Council voted against his stadium proposal several times. Residents even said no to a mayoral candidates who ran on building this stadium. @pdcityhall.bsky.social

I prefer more flexible than "you can cast these spells, which always have the same effects" but not so flexible that what I can and can't do depends more on the GM's mood than anything else. Ars Magica and Mage: the Ascension are good examples, IMO.

It's so funny how we all have a device with capabilities such as "Essentially Infinite Knowledge" and "More Art Than You can Ever Appreciate" but the people who make the device and its software only ever want us to use the "Brain Disintegrator 3000" and "Involuntary Mass Surveillance Node" functions
