A difference of morals is not the same as a difference of opinions. We cannot agree to disagree about morals. In its very essence, morality is a dividing line. Light has no fellowship with darkness, God says. No matter if darkness calls itself light--it’s still dark and it can’t agree with light.

In my personal experience it’s almost invariably to protect a fragile, dogmatic worldview and/or keep personal abuse in a manageable box. Eg, M. Basham detailing how her dad destroyed her family but he’s a good guy so therefore it’s fine when anyone destroys a family. She *needs* abuse to be fine.

I agree. It seems like it’s intellectual laziness at best but I think most of the time it’s self gaslighting/outright lying in order to maintain their commitments (I’d say personal as well as political).
