A little bit of hope after a terrible week A survival guide to the next four years.

It's been a terrible week. A terrible, terrible week. The worst people on earth are full of energy and vigour, the best are defined by anxiety and self-doubt. Here are three simple rules to surviving the next four years, because by God we'll need them iandunt.substack.com/p/a-little-b...

Government urged to work with GPs to reduce waiting lists | Doctors Association UK The Doctors' Association UK is urging the Government to work with GPs to reduce NHS waiting lists and improve patient care

🩺| "Why won’t the Department for Health just fund the employment of 3,500 under and unemployed GPs, who can offer the expert care patients need and are extremely good value for money?"

How many unnecessary investigations and appts in this pathway? In what alternate reality does someone have a test results by the time they've done their shopping? This example will cost a fortune. For this sort of choice availability, you need capacity in the system. La la land!!!

So this is the new great ideaπŸ€”

I’m pretty sure if Sarah had seen a GP she wouldn’t have needed to have a CT scan, no need to speak to the ENT registrar & yes it could be managed in the community

Why does NHS England always underestimate the skills of GPs?

Great analysis. But we should be showing this to all our children. This behaviour occurs in all walks of life, not just politics, and the cycle needs to be broken.

Currently General Practice only gets 6% of the NHS budget but does 90% of the work (only 5% of all drs & nurses are in GP). The GP contract is worth Β£620million less than it was 5 yrs ago. We are asking for an 11%uplift to bring us back to the level of funding we had 5yrs ago.

05.12.2024 19:15 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Invest in General Practice. Currently funding is 30p/pt/day! Invest just over Β£3 per month per head to achieve a return to real terms funding, last seen in 2015. GPs will do the rest. This is just the price of a cup of coffee. Support the partnership model which is the most efficient part of the NHS

There needs to be more of a sense of urgency from the government. We've already lost 1000 GP practices. If we lose more, the NHS collapses.

General practice funding saw 2.5% drop in real terms after Covid General practice in England saw a real-terms drop of 2.5% in total funding after the Covid pandemic, despite increases to PCN investment.

NHS England has neglected the fact that the increase in cash terms includes payments to PCNs
These payments aren’t available for GP practices to use
Stripping this away, practices have had real terms cuts in income
Fewer GPs employed, practices closing and many more considering closures or cut backs

Today like every week day 1.3m people will consult in General Practice
1/30 will need emergency care at A&E
1/5 will need a referral to another NHS service for investigation or treatment in the future
GP practices have been dealing with 20% more patients than 2019
5.6% of the budget

The average number of patients to GP is 2300, a safe limit is considered 1800
There are some areas this is so much worse & disproportionately affects areas of deprivation
Closures of practices mean other GPs struggle as it’s virtually impossible to close a list
We need a safe limits for all

Did you know that your practice receives just Β£112.50 per year for each patient, whatever their health needs. That’s less than the cost of an annual TV licence.

It’s just 31p a day for every patient

GP & practice team needs more to support patient care
