Why is everyone sanewashing what he said? Maybe he referred to "hostile rhetoric" or "hateful rhetoric" elsewhere in his remarks, but I heard him literally say, "IF THE RHETORIC DOESN'T STOP, THERE'S GONNA BE BLOODSHED."

That is exactly equivalent to "IF YOU DON'T SHUT UP, I'LL KILL YOU."
