I think failure undersells what has been a conscious and malicious effort to demonise and scapegoat immigrants of all kinds.

I read the book first. The premise is the same so I didn’t have to work out from scratch what was going on but the film was so different and strange. I was immediately hooked.

I can’t remember 😆 The whole thing is a mass of overstimulated blur! But… that one scene is quiet and calmly expresses so much about an important part of human nature and counterbalances all the mayhem.

I re-watched all the 4 films recently and the whole story/concept/arc hinges on this one scene.

Will do :) I have small children so don’t have much time to actually read but ‘Valkyrie’ will be my next audiobook! I’d love to read Earthsea to my daughter but not sure I she’s quite ready at 8. She likes the Catwings children’s books by Le Guin so I’m hopeful 🤞

Hi! I’ve read very few Magic stories and I’m about to start reading Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. Have you read these and where do they fit in to the - Rules/No Rules/Characters overconfident/not sure - scale? Also which of your novels do you recommend reading first?!?

A sad time but you’ve reminded me to watch the series again with my missus who has never seen it. It’s the most devastating tv show I’ve watched (saw it when it was on repeat when I was about 18). It has stayed with me ever since. I’ll let you know how it goes 2nd time around!
