I am being told the government can in fact disagree with outcomes of court cases now. Fascinating news to a trans person.

I'd really love it if one day somebody did that place up as a fully rigorous restoration project to whatever it might have been like in 1969 / early 1970s. It would just be really interesting to see.

I'm fearful of just that.

One thing up here that could help is that the UNCRC is properly incorporate into Scottish law, which should - SHOULD - give some extra protection for kids.

We attempted to challenge Edinburgh's bathroom segregation based on it, of course, but that went nowhere.

The request to use someone’s preferred pronouns is not an act of violence or oppression. It is a summons to courtesy. Refusal to do so is performative cruelty masquerading as self-proclaimed integrity.

If you didn't know, "You're not trans, you're autistic" has been used to deny trans people gender-affirming care in the UK for years. This would codify it at the school level, not just in the transphobic GIC system.

Congratulations, kids will now get rejected before they even achieve a referral 🫠

The draft guidance from the DfE states that it's about safeguarding children and requires a child-centred approach, then promptly declares that in the case of a child wanting to transition, one must consider the effect on everyone else, or whether the child is just autistic 😩

Keeping children safe in education: 2026 proposed revisions - Department for Education - Citizen Space Find and participate in consultations run by the Department for Education

‼️ Help protect trans kids ‼️

UK Govt published its “Keeping Children Safe” transgender guidance for schools.
It’s horrific:
- bathroom ban
- PE ban
- supportive parents reported for safeguarding

Social transition effectively prevented.

Telling parents is downright dangerous. It will very clearly put many trans and non-binary young people at risk of abuse, bullying, potentially homelessness, among other things. This is the exact opposite of "protecting children". It's transphobia as policy.

Labour has brought back section 28 against trans and non-binary individuals. I lived through section 28 last time. I suffered the harms of it. This will do the same thing. Not even allowing young people to socially transition is plain wrong. It prevents them finding their own identity.

Worth noting that in their continued "unbiased" reporting (sarcasm) the BBC doesn't cover how the Cass Review has been repeatedly discredited by peer reviewed studies, that suicide rates among trans young people have increased or, not a small matter, QUOTES A SINGLE TRANS OR NON-BINARY INDIVIDUAL.

If you were trying to come up with more harmful guidance towards trans and non-binary young people you would be hard pressed to find it. The fact it is backed by Cass shows how wrong it is.
We are already seeing an increase in suicide rates among trans young people.

Trans folk and allies, flood this. It won’t stop them doing irreparable damage to trans kids in schools but in twenty years when this gets studied we’ll be able to say they knew the consequences and how poorly received it was.

Just imagine, today, if children got referred to "clinical support" if they expressed any interest in "gay feelings" with the Government saying that approval for them to be allowed to express being homosexual at school would only be likely in very limited circumstances.

That's what this guidance is

We (trans safety network) met with Cass during her research on the Cass review and explained how clearly ridiculous it would be to try and bring haircuts and self expression under the authority of being a "medical intervention".

She went away from that meeting and produced this crap anyway.

Dear @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social.

You're quoted in a BBC News article this afternoon as saying new guidance for schools in how to suppress trans children will supply "reassurance for parents".

I'm one of those parents. I actually DON'T want my child treated as sub-human, thanks. Wish you'd asked.

Having read some of the guidance just now via media:

It looks horrendous.

Much worse than anything we have ever seen.

Worse than section 28.

Labour hates trans kids.

Apparently it is now 'law'. It will completely destroy trans kids lives.

I am without further words.

Oh shit apparently school guidance coming out a 4pm today.

And I have childcare responsibilities so won't be reading it.

I suspect it will be just as awful as the earlier draft.

I certainly don't expect anything that will help trans kids.

I expect most of it will make their lives worse.

That 'reassurance for parents' line from Phillipson is absolutely full of poison.

"Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said the new guidance would deliver "pragmatic support for teachers, reassurance for parents, and above all, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people"."

'Reassurance'?!?!?!

Trigger warning: nasty, nasty stuff.

To my great shame I didn't know anything about this project before. And I think it's really, really interesting.

...But that might also be because it's really REALLY similar to a project I put together in the final year of my part II course, in 2006-2007. I must go dig around the archives for it.

Everyone writing this stuff knows that LLMs infer responses to prompts based on models of statistical relationships found in training texts, but they want to think it's a sentient intelligence because it's eating them and they want to believe there is something inside them worth eating.
