I've been meaning to do that as a personal project sometime. When I get that going you'll be among the first to know!

I started there in spring '83, initially so I could get into the Dead Kennedys show at the Great Hall that spring. I did a lot of the publicity work in 83-84, and ran the club in 84-85. I have a bunch of flyers from my time there and a "manager" folder with memos and some history.

That checks out. I found this in the Whole's "annual report" for the '83-84 school year. I can't recall if I worked that LFR show, but I have strong memories of some of the shows on this list.

I have a folder full of Whole archives from that time. I just checked and learned that Sweet Taste of Afrika was playing in the Whole the night the Replacements were over at Willey.

One would think this show would have been at the Whole over in Coffman Union, but the Whole was in transition at that time from its "coffeehouse" folk/jazz orientation to its "progressive" iteration. I started volunteering at the Whole a year later when new wave/punk shows took over.

I was a senior in high school when I went to this show, and started at UMN the following fall. I don't recall any other shows happening at the Willey auditorium, but I did eventually return there for Psych 1001.

When I was a small child my parents bought me the Golden Records audio version of Avengers #4. In the recording Namor refers to himself as the Sub-ma-REEN-er. I think that settles it.

Yep. Steve had a band in Chicago called Strike Under in the early 80s - a significant part of the scene there alongside Big Black, Naked Raygun, the Effigies etc.

I got to know him a bit when he moved to Mpls and started dating a friend of mine.

Went to that show with a high school crush and a couple of her friends. I could write a pretty cringe short story about that night.

The concert itself? Fantastic. Two of my favorite bands at the time, both in their prime.

Yep, '82 - Under the Big Black Sun tour. I was there too. I remember Exene trying to get the ushers/security to lighten up and let people dance but to no avail. Still a great show, but yeah, awkward.

And I low-key bugged Lou Barlow a couple years ago at the MN State Fair. I saw him walking toward me, looked him in the eye and gave him a guy nod, just to be a stinker. He ignored me and kept walking.

I strolled through a Fluxus exhibit at the Walker Art Center at the same time as Lee, Thurston and Kim (I don't think Steve was there). I did not bug them but yeah, I tailed'em for awhile.

I was doing the same, left Chicago at 8am. 94 turned into a nightmare around Osseo. I gave up and am now at a hotel in Eau Claire for the night.

I saw it 7 times at the Southtown that summer. Rode my bike there to catch the matinee showing again and again.

My first exposure to the Commandos (and the existence of a local music scene) was when I was 15, shopping at Comic City in the summer of '79. Curtiss A was working there and was spinning that live Commandos record in the store. One of those primary formative experiences.

For 20+ years, whenever any public figure died, someone in my household would say "and yet Cheney lives." Guess we'll have to come up with a new one.

I was still in high school, had been going to new wave concerts, but I think this was the first small-scale "punk" show I ever attended. They were recording the Stink EP around that time and played a bunch of it. Really revved up night as I recall.
