Fighting games have been getting downports to less capable hardware for as long as the genre has been around, but every now and then, a developer will opt to completely demake a game at lower specs instead. Let's talk about some Fighting Game Demakes.

The last time I saw a long dormant 2D series get revived and immediately written off by some for its art style despite the developer pedigree, we got a genre defining banger in Streets of Rage 4.

Astonishing X-Men! Great run, Cyclops in particular is the absolute highlight.

Only real sticking point for most people (and an understandable one) is that it's written by Joss Whedon, but that aside, it's a good read.

I'm gonna be honest, I really didn't like what I played of Tokon the last few betas and was content to just let the game pass me by.

Dead or Alive is the ONE 3D fighting game series I'm not hopelessly trash at, so happy to see it's coming back, hell yeah

As someone that likes Kiwami 2 more than most, a lot of the distaste for it has definitely been around for a while, but also kinda valid in some respects

There is no good reason why Ryuji's first boss encounter looks exponentially better in the PS2 original compared to Kiwami 2

I sometimes joke that Yakuza games for me are retro Sega compilations that just so happen to have big ass (usually pretty good) games attached to them, but given the direction the series seems to be going, that might literally be the only aspect of them I care about moving forward.

1st person toggle has me *way* more interested in this now, as nitpicky as that sounds.

I mean yeah, if it were at Atlus-esque "acquire them or they go under" situation then sure. I'd actually argue in that case that Sega would 100% be the least likely publisher to waste M2's talents.

But M2 seems to be doing pretty good for themselves these days, which is nice considering their niche

Consolidation's already fucking this industry up and M2 does so much good in the space outside of their Sega work. Why would you want the net loss of chaining them to a single publisher?

I think the main issue is that the vast majority of these games haven't been localized (and probably would be a major effort to do so considering how Japan-centric the series' sense of humor is)

Konami's had a good track record of localizing older stuff, so them skipping this speaks volumes, IMO
