Every time lawmakers propose legislation to make it easier to build multifamily rental housing, status quo advocates insist the focus should be on creating affordable for-sale homes, so now that there's a bill in CT that would do just that, those advocates are...fighting that, too, naturally.

Eliminating parking minimums is not banning parking. Capping minimum lot size requirements at 5,000 square feet is not banning lots under 5,000 square feet.

Dishonest status quo advocates ragebaiting people by falsely calling everything a ban is my newest pet peeve.

There are a whole lot of Dems who seemed fine when Dems were in power but who are entirely unequipped for the situation we're in - or worse, simply unwilling to do what's necessary. That goes for my own Congressman, Jim Himes, too.

...which you do by speaking out against Trump/MAGA even knowing it may lead to political obscurity, not only when it's safe. And maybe CT politics are such that an anti-Trump R can't get elected here, but that doesn't mean it can't happen elsewhere or there's no room in the tent.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect Dems to vote for Fazio for Governor in the spirit of making room for moderate Rs. In part bc we already have Ned - who is very popular - as the moderate option. And bc a moderate R would have to earn the trust of moderate Dems and left-leaning indies...

I believe Dems would welcome Fazio as part of a coalition if he was willing to criticize Trump/MAGA, whether he did it as a Republican or a conservative Dem. I think you're right that he sees that as a path to obscurity, but I don't know how to solve for that...

...let me amend that. It's not just their willingness to accept the MAGA vote. It's their calculation that they *need* the MAGA vote and their acting accordingly.

Their willingness to accept the support of far-right MAGA voters reveals a flaw in judgment and character so severe that it is disqualifying for even the most down-ballot candidate.

They want to have it both ways. They want moderates and independents to vote for them, but they *also* very much want the vote of the MAGA right, which is why they won't say anything that could jeopardize that. And that's why voters don't trust them even for municipal office...

...like the fact that they're not loudly echoing the most extreme right-wing talking points means they deserve a reward. But what they don't say speaks louder than what they do. Their unwillingness to speak out against the administration helps enable that behavior...
