Then we went to Tiny Town in Hot Springs which is basically an amazing hand made model train set, and I guess we're train people. I have imposter syndrome because I don't do trainspotting, but that's definitely too many trains in one vacation to not be train people.

TFW you see the people who rode the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad next to you yesterday are now in line in front of you for the Steam Train at Dollywood.

I’ve spent more than a decade working to promote privacy and safety amidst increasing forms of digital violence and the rise of authoritarianism, reading @leximcmenamin.com’s sharp, mindful and straightforward op-ed on digital surveillance and predatory industries was refreshing. Don’t miss out! πŸ‘οΈπŸ‘‡

Cover of Martha Stewart's book. The title is "Very Good Things". The rest of the text is too hard to read, but I'm hoping "housing prices going down" is in there.

So glad Austin is back to people complaining that new housing will hurt their property values. Years of "new housing makes housing expensive" talk was tedious.
Our discourse is normal again and hurting your property values is a good thing because it means housing is more available and affordable.

Pretty sure the MetroBus supposedly has all door boarding. The fact the front and back door don't open in tandem seems to be the issue. The scanners are at the back door, and I've used them a fair bit on crowded buses. On not crowded buses the driver doesn't open the back door so you can't use it.

It's interesting the worst spots seem to be more rural and more single family home areas. Maybe the result of Trump's firing of government workers?

APD just required 8 cop cars to put a guy in handcuffs and then stand around in the street for an hour. I realize I don't have a full view of things, but from the outside APD looks either overstaffed or very poorly deployed.

Oh what 1,000 units aren't enough for the 100,000+ babies born in the city each year? Not being sarcastic the net is something like 40k more people a year without anyone new moving to New York. NIMBYs never seem to want to talk about natural population growth.

2) Some trans girls might be stronger and taller and more athletic than some other cis girls. IDK. We let strong tall athletic girls play sports. I'm not sure what the problem is here.

Another was 20th century history of US/Latin American relations. Which was another place where so many historical things I didn't understand suddenly made sense.

Intro to African American studies. So many things I had heard nothing about and that made so much history actually make sense. Not to mention exposure to art I had zero experience with that enriched my life.

I used to run with a heartrate monitor and I could literally watch my heart rate jump and drop 20-40bpm as the sun went behind a cloud and then came back out.

The next thing i'd like Austin to do is take our transit corridor planning (mixed use/dense/car-free allowed) and rezone lots adjacent to our urban trails for it.

Sometimes I think about the time I used ssh's back channel capability to send some minor terminal information back and forth and I still really just want to make everything work over secure ssh back channels.

Cheaper loans just mean higher housing prices as more of a payment can go towards principal. In Austin where we've been working to make it easier to build housing home prices and rents continue to fall. Everything goes back to there not being enough housing because it's too hard to build housing.

This goes back to what I posted recently. I find LLMs work best when starting new conversations often focused on discrete tasks.

I think one of the most difficult things for me with LLMs is to refrain from attempting to teach it like it's a Jr Dev. It retains nothing you "teach" it, and one of the most useful things you can do is open a new conversation so you have a small context that it can retain for the current task.

Keep seeing the Robotaxi mapping cars with their giant camera tripods. It's amazing that everything about that service is based upon lies. I wish there was an S&P Γndex fund without Tesla. I feel so exposed to this valueless meme stock.

If you look at what's selling I'd suggest a lot of homes need to drop their prices by 50%. Hopefully Austin can return to being an Art hub in the next few years. Rents in town suggest median price should be around $250k.

The cloud had blessed us software developers, but I do think people have forgotten how much maintenance and troubleshooting went into a box, screwed into a rack, in a climate controlled environment. I can't imagine trying to keep a robot worker functioning in a field.
