They need to be sure to show the license plates on the vehicles! None of these videos do, which squanders an opportunity for a smidgen of accountability. If they are bounty hunters, they may own the veicles.

They already have slavery reinstalled in the form of student loans that never end and more generally in credit card debt. Just wait until they tighten bankruptcy laws and reestablish the poor house concept, then theyʻll have labor for the farms.

Oh my. I taught research methods briefly for a school of Chinese medicine that was trying to establish an accredited PhD program. I got headaches trying to figure out how to do a blind study, much less a double blind, when everything hinges on energy flows of one person as read by one physician.

Excellent article, Cas. I am quite nervous about what might happen-- my latest book is subtitled "Health & mortality in a diverse world," & my academic career has revolved largely around issues of acculturation. Fortunately(?), the new book is from Cambridge, but I expect it to get banned. 🤓

Awww, a student from a couple of semesters back just emailed that he bought my book. He was a really nice person-- a bit of work helping him with some anxiety issues not uncommon for "non-traditional students," those being, um, older than is typical? But he did a superb project, as I recall...

I’m not posting this as shameless self-promotion, but rather because the book includes demographic and statistical data no longer available on US gov websites that may be useful to friends and researchers. It discusses lifespans and healthcare utilization along with employment and income data.

From my upcoming book- Wives and lovers left behind, sails of ships receding into the horizon, perhaps never to return, Portugal knows loss and longing. Like hiraeth, saudade describes the ache for homes and loves left behind or gone away, or dreams of romances that may never be.

I tend to see the RW immigration complaints as a tool to rile people up and garner votes. Realistically, those countries have low birthrates, ageing populations, & workforce shortages only fixable with immigration, particularly in healthcare. So it's more of a tool of voter manipulation.

The thermometer read "Fires of Hades," though I had taken it out early. Somehow it was quite tender and tasty, perhaps tortured into compliance.

Iʻm between writing, reviewing proofs of my new book, but teaching 7 classes and brushing off the rust in our campus chorus. And whoʻs to say that going over edges is a bad thing?
