02.07.2025 06:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh my. I taught research methods briefly for a school of Chinese medicine that was trying to establish an accredited PhD program. I got headaches trying to figure out how to do a blind study, much less a double blind, when everything hinges on energy flows of one person as read by one physician.
02.07.2025 05:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Excellent article, Cas. I am quite nervous about what might happen-- my latest book is subtitled "Health & mortality in a diverse world," & my academic career has revolved largely around issues of acculturation. Fortunately(?), the new book is from Cambridge, but I expect it to get banned. π€

20.03.2025 03:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cambridge posted my book info on their 1584 Blog! It's about diversity in healthcare, focused on mortality. Any bets on how long before it gets banned somewhere in the US?

Awww, a student from a couple of semesters back just emailed that he bought my book. He was a really nice person-- a bit of work helping him with some anxiety issues not uncommon for "non-traditional students," those being, um, older than is typical? But he did a superb project, as I recall...

20.02.2025 22:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would not be surprised if it gets banned in certain states, so itβs probably good the publisher is Cambridge.
Note: Cambridge has kindly offered a 20% discount using the code at the bottom.
Iβm not posting this as shameless self-promotion, but rather because the book includes demographic and statistical data no longer available on US gov websites that may be useful to friends and researchers. It discusses lifespans and healthcare utilization along with employment and income data.

Oh, and I have a book coming out from Cambridge that is essentially a guide to DEI in healthcare. I donΚ»t know whether to hope it wonΚ»t get banned or to take it as a badge of success if it does...
Reminds me of Hopper's Nighthawks, but the Maui daybreak version...
01.02.2025 21:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looks like publication has been moved up to February! ItΚ»s getting real. Good news is that there will be paperbacks for a much more reasonable price and Cambridge sent me a press release about 20% off of preorders for the book. Link below:

07.12.2024 18:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We humans have crafted words like hiraeth and saudade from our finitude.
We shield ourselves as best we can from the dark abyss, but loss finds its way
through our best defenses.
Portugalβs coastlines sparkle with sunshine on its cresting waves and on the
silvery scales of its fishermenβs catches. Eternal seafarers, the Portuguese stood
at the vanguard of maritime exploration and imperialism, its sailors sent far
and wide to Asia, Africa, and the Americas...
From my upcoming book- Wives and lovers left behind, sails of ships receding into the horizon, perhaps never to return, Portugal knows loss and longing. Like hiraeth, saudade describes the ache for homes and loves left behind or gone away, or dreams of romances that may never be.
07.12.2024 10:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I tend to see the RW immigration complaints as a tool to rile people up and garner votes. Realistically, those countries have low birthrates, ageing populations, & workforce shortages only fixable with immigration, particularly in healthcare. So it's more of a tool of voter manipulation.
