10.12.2025 19:53 β π 1 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0At the start of the year my year 9s were by far my worst class. On every level.
They were rude, late; theyβd scream and shout and not have a clue what was going on.
It couldnβt continue. So I started selecting a few books at the end of each lesson to βmarkβ. 1/n
I've made some Do Nows / Revision starters for GCSE Statistics
It's aimed at my foundation tier class. However, could also be used with Higher Tier students - just misses higher tier content.
Aiming to make a few more revision resources over the holidays!

Made a few revision grids. Again aimed at a GCSE Statistics Foundation class but may be helpful for Higher Tier students.
Feel free to use/adapt! Let me know if you use them and spot any errors.

I made a couple of new revision resources (one for GCSE, two for A level) that maths teachers might find useful. Quick blog post about them here:

Busiest week ever on draustinmaths.com. Always surprised at the number of teachers using the site, but thank you! And here's some new resources I used with Year 11 to practise algebraic proof.

A screenshot of the folder with the files in. There are files for 5 sessions: TMUA, MAT, STEP, PAT and ESAT, with handouts and answers to each.
Every year in the spring term, I run a series of information sessions for our first year (year 12) students on the main STEM admissions tests (TMUA, MAT, STEP, PAT, and ESAT)
Sharing my slides for the 2025 sessions in case they're useful for anyone π

Schools that are seeing improvement in attendance:
1. What do you do in addition to the usual stuff of home visits, phone calls, letters etc?
2. What is behaviour like during unstructured time?
You can DM me if you prefer. Thanks

Super grateful to the Tiffin staff who still willingly share this with us despite Jamie deserting them this year π @drfrostlearning.bsky.social
I think maths would benefit from incredibly regular faculty meetings where we just talk about how to teach best together.
Would this be the case in all subjects or would this be a timewaste in other areas?
Transcript of the xkcd comic, from explainxkcd.com Two flow charts are shown. The first flow chart has four steps in simple order, one with multiple recommendations. DIFFERENTIATION Start Try applying Chain Rule Power Rule Quotient Rule Product Rule Etc. Done? No Arrow returns to "Try applying" step. Yes Done! The second flow chart begins like the first, then descends into chaos. INTEGRATION Start Try applying Integration by Parts Substitution Done? Haha, Nope! Chaos, Roughly from left to right, top to bottom, direction arrows not included. Cauchy's Formula???????!???????? Partial Fractions??? Install Mathematica? Riemann Integration Stokes' Theorem???? Risch Algorithm??? Sad face???????? What the heck is a Bessel Function?? Phone calls to mathematicians Oh No Burn the Evidence More arrows pointing out of the image to suggest more steps.
Just finished differentiation with my #ALevelMaths students, and started integration. I'm reminded of this excellent xkcd comic...

A felt-tip drawing of five squares. On the right is a stack with area 3,12 and 27. On the left is a single square with area 12. And a large square containing a question mark rests at an angle in the centre.
One of my favourite puzzles for the weekend!
Whatβs the area of the toppled square?

Desmos graph showing a definite integral and the equivalent region shaded under a curve
A useful #DesmosTip for #ALevelMaths
You can calculate definite integrals. If you define your function to be integrated as y1 you can also shade the area above (or below!) the x-axis using inequalities.
