The onions, the mustard

Don't worry. We'll start dying prematurely soon enough.

We used to be a proper country!

Oh and unleaded petrol of course. The most lead poisoned generation is now of an age where we mostly express our uncontrollable rage and diminished cognitive abilities by voting for Farage, rather than headbutting people in the street.

The fall in violent crime is too big to be explained by any single cause, but I've always thought that immigration from cultures where drinking eight pints and getting into a fight isn't seen as a normal way to spend your Saturday night must be a non-trivial part of it.

Presumably those aren't set on electrified lines...

Pretty sure no such reason exists, or that anyone has even seriously tried to offer one. It's pure political cowardice / pragmatism (delete according to point of view).

I think in many cases it's not so much having given him the benefit of the doubt - as you say it's been pretty obvious what he is for years. It's the fact that he no longer feels the need to hide behind the thinnest veil of deniability, and what that says about the direction we are traveling in.

Yeah, but it loses all that value if I take my phone outside.

Indeed, or how do you factor solar panels, gigabit broadband availability or a heat pump into "what the value would have been in 1992"?

Revaluing would be unpopular, especially in the south of England where house prices have increased massively in the interim, so no government has had the balls to do it. That's the reason. No further explanation needed or possible.

Don't think it was ever argued that Amery or Philby were not British. You cannot betray your country if it wasn't yours in the first place.

He would doubtless claim to be British in the grounds of ancestry (ie whiteness).

There was me thinking that for all his faults, at least Hannan hasn't followed the likes of Carswell down into the sewer of outright ethno-nationalism.

Oh.

Is Mr Habib suggesting that you can't be properly British unless you have an English-sounding name? Apart from being deeply racist, that would also be a little ironic.

But I'm sure someone with Andrew's integrity, public spiritedness and sense of duty would graciously decline the throne if it ever came to it.

But yeah, you can certainly imagine non-apocalyptic scenarios that lead to it becoming a live issue... a big fire at Forest Lodge, say.

Actually it seems that Prince George is 12 (which must be illegal!) so presumably old enough to travel apart from his dad on most journeys. Remember it being remarked on as unusual that William at a similar age went to to Diana's funeral in the same car as Charles.

I believe that people high in the line of succession don't travel together for precisely that reason, though not sure how that works with young children.

What's a "normal" attrition rate for councillors? I assume it's higher than for MPs given that councillors tend to be people with jobs rather than full time politicians, and be less rigorously vetted than parliamentary candidates (if that means anything in Reform).

I'm not being 100% serious. Some of us older UK chemists still care about it far more than we probably should.

Wikipedia thinks it has a few, though to be fair all near its source, not over what most people would think of as "The Amazon"
