David Wood, Set for Execution, Says He Was Never the 'Desert Killer' Wood’s attorneys have requested that more than 100 additional pieces of evidence be tested for DNA, but the state has opposed the request for over a decade.

Court filings reveal a bombshell: A former cellmate of one of the informants said he knows that the story the state used to convict Woodβ€”the purported jailhouse confessionβ€”was made up with the help of El Paso police.

FEMA’s top lawyer placed on leave after less than one week in role It may be tied to a lawsuit about funding for migrant shelters.

SCOOP: FEMA's top lawyer was forced out yesterday after less than a week on the jobβ€”and sources tell me it was because of his unwillingness to write a memo providing legal cover for the agency's impoundment of $80 million from NYC migrant shelters.

Green is 77 and last year was using a chair to get around the Hill. Symbolism or not, he actually does need the cane. Green is many things, and he's one of my reps. I love him for it. But performative β€” the man absolutely isn't. His a fabulous rhetorician, and doesn't need visuals to make his points

While we're on the subject β€” "amateur," doesn't mean "bad/low-skilled."

All it means is that you don't do it for money.

So today, some of y'all learned that, if you get reimbursed for your work at all, in any formβ€” you're a professional artist.

Yes, that includes trading art for social support

my "other" career is in psychology β€” and that was my own read on him. He seemed exasperated at evening having to show up, because he likely knew what he was in for; but still had to do president things. For someone like him, the farce of that taking time away from his actual job has to wear.

Leadership?

You mean like "What Did the Democrats Do This Week?"
β€’ Continued to grant unanimous consent
β€’ Refused to weaponize parliamentary procedure
β€’ Refused to work outside safe, comfortable norms
β€’ Took a long weekend off yet again
β€’ Finger-wagged
β€’ Strongly-worded letters

Leadership indeed

Because endless finger-wagging and continuing to grant unanimous consent is such a shining example of "leadership."

i mean the oscar broadcast was enjoyable but it feels like a cultural victory for fascism that hollywood is too scared for even vague platitudes about resisting.

Ironically, all the legal "well actually" about how they *technically* didn't make that argument really amount to this. It's news when they say it's news, entertainment when they don't want it to be.

That's my own read on the Zoomers. We really only started coming into our political own in our late 20s/early 30s. The War on Terror really defined our gen. I have a feeling all this will define Z's.
But for all our similarities when we were kids β€” plenty of them do have it more together.

Yeah, even the current crop of Gen X Dems are exactly this. "Nothing really matters or will change. If we don't rock the boat, it'll be fine."

That said β€” I'd kinda argue the biggest diff is curation.

SM curates via algorithm. BBSes and iboards curated more directly β€” direct interaction kept posts current.

You can argue that the less-invasive algorithms (here, Substack, though that's enshittifying quickly) are similar, but still.

Social media just made the old BBS/iboard/chan system more open to the public and added a few features ("like" metrics, sharing, etc.). They're less walled than the BBSes are, and lack more of the anonymity. But there are still walls.

Alex Jones is also Gen X β€” and same thing. The cynicism and distrust toward elites, gov institutions, etc. made him what he is. He's cynically greedy β€” but he's always been completely gullible for whatever conspiracy theory du jour is up for sale.

Daily reminder to myself that rolling back fascism requires of me and everyone broad solidarity with factions I might find deeply objectionable in milder times. That’s much of the heavy lifting.

There’s a major shift in U.S. cybersecurity policy. A recent CISA memo removed Russia from its list of priorities, focusing instead on China and local systems. Analysts were told not to track Russian cyber threats.

I've heard this my whole life, and it's part and parcel to the "just vote for the lesser evil, bro" narrative.

Sure, it may work in the short term. But in the long term β€” it gets us right where we are.

Think too about how advertising works. It's a flood strategy. Everywhere, all the time.

You have to be your own biggest advocate β€” and shameless self-promotion is very much a part of that.

It doesn't have to be fake β€” take pride in your work and share what you make. Just do it a lot.
