Electricity usage and solar export graphs for Feb 2025 to Feb 2026. High usage in Feb, March, Nov, Jan.
Our electricity usage clearly shows when we use the air conditioning! December would have been higher if I had not been away for three weeks. Not sure why January was so low; I was gone only 8 days. Also shows when clouds or day length limit solar input.

Iโve been doing my strength & cardio workouts despite the low pressure system bringing back my old friends the Screaming Knees. They donโt scream as badly as when I was taking prescription meds with joint pain as a side effect. When summer is over, they should stop screaming.

Australia Institute research shows a 25 per cent tax on gas exports could raise $17 billion every year, while incentivising producers to prioritise the supply of gas to domestic customers.

I fly to Bali on Saturday, to join a cruise ship on Sunday. I just checked the weather forecast: thunderstorms! Both days, plus several more as we head east to Komodo etc. Joy, not. Luckily I wasnโt planning any sightseeing, and Iโve been to Komodo and seen drsgons.

Between my morning mall wall and an afternoon cardio workout that involved a lot of footwork, Iโve been credited with over 10,500 steps today. If I included step equivalents of my evening pedal on the recumbent, It would be quite a bit more. No wonder my knees are complaining!

Forget the sentimental bs of โValentineโs Dayโ and celebrate the death of Captain James Cook on 14 February 1779, killed by the native Hawaiians following typical arrogant activities by the British explorer. He wasnโt welcome in Australia either.

Updated Linux Mint and various programs on my second laptop, which hasn't been getting enough love from me. In fact, I've not been using either laptop very much recently. (For social media and email, I mostly use my iPhone and iPads.) But I expect to be doing more writing & editing later this year.

Black plastic case with two magnifying lenses that rotate outward.
Finding this item sent me into fine memories of my botany + entomology + arachnology days. The case is about 2.5 x 3 cm, with two lenses of different magnification, that can be used separately or together. Still in beautiful condition. Weighs almost nothing. Want to count the hairs on a flyโs leg?

'Hero' who wrestled gun from Bondi shooter named as Ahmed al Ahmed

A "hero" bystander who was filmed wrestling a gun from one of the Bondi Beach attackers has been named as 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed.
Video verified by the BBC showed Mr Ahmed run at the gunman and seize his weapon, before turning the gun round on him, forcing his retreat.
Mr Ahmed, a fruit shop owner and father of two, remains in hospital, where he has undergone surgery for bullet wounds to his arm and hand, his family told 7News Australia.
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.
The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.
