Before I moved back to the Bay (yep, had to do that this year), I went by the CinemaraDome and the Arclight and just touched the doors. Fuck, I miss that place

OH MY GOD SAME

Going to the movies isn't what it used to be in L.A. Arclight Hollywood was the perfect meet-up place. I miss Stella Barra too.

A Texas Judge Is Suing For the Right to Ignore the Supreme Court’s Same-Sex Marriage Ruling The Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges that marriage is a fundamental right. Only Brian Umphress dares to ask the question: What if that doesn’t apply in Texas?

No really, Republicans are serious about undoing marriage equality:

A Texas judge is currently suing for a legal right to only officiate weddings for different-sex couples

This would empower state actors to selectively withdraw LGBTQ people's fundamental rights

Adopt A Station - Rescue Public Media Help preserve independent journalism and community programming across America by adopting a public media station. Congress has voted to rescind public media's funding.

Dear Houston/Texas peeps. Most of our PBS/NPR stations are going to be okay. Look to the rural communities in LA, MS, MO, AL, NM, AZ, etc. Those stations (most got half their budgets from the CPB) service already impoverished communities.

The people who work in international education are some of the smartest, kindest, most caring people I've ever met. It makes me sadder than I can tell you to know so many people are losing not just jobs but *vocations* over this.

This is the industry my parents spent their careers in. I can tell you dozens of stories of international students who found second families, careers, and spouses because of their time at American universities. In addition to the job loss, we're gonna be poorer communally and culturally for this.

I have, on occasion, had some rough goes. You’re not alone at all. Things change, skies clear, and in the meantimeβ€” hang in there, talk to people, find what you need.

Or maybe this will die in the great silent void of the dead internet that once had so much promise before the worst people in the world destroyed it. I guess we'll find out together.

I'm having a rough go of it lately, and have been thinking: everyone is going through something, and you have no idea what it is, or how it's affecting them.

Quote post this is if you're going through something, and maybe we'll all realize that we aren't as alone as we feel right now.

the voting rights act is, in its entirety, obviously constitutional under the 15th amendment, which gives congress broad and proactive authority to stop racial discrimination in voting. and you know it is obviously constitutional because roberts has had to invent entire new doctrines to gut it.

These victims of ICE will eventually become known colloquially as "The Disappeared." Pinochet's Chile had their own disappeared. People who got dragged off in the middle of the night to the football stadium, many of whom were never heard from again or acknowledged as even existing by the government.

Wonder how they qualify these. β€˜Cause there’s a lot of wiggle room here that can create a wide net to be cast.

There is a bill right now in the US trying to pass

It would make it illegal for any financial service provider to prohibit or inhibit any legal transaction

It's called the "Fair Access to Banking Act, H.R.987 in the House, S.410 in the Senate"

Call your representatives if you live in the US !!!!

Hey guys, so remember how I wrote about the four stages of how P25 and Republicans want to enact anti-trans censorship?

This signals that we have FULLY entered Stage Two: We lose the trans internet. Stage One is over - they've already gotten there.

Please pay attention to this now.

The problem(s) with Ari Aster's 'Eddington' This high-anxiety pandemic Western wants to impress you by reproducing the chaos, disinformation, and combativeness of 2020 β€” but it's less satire than a star-filled documentary reenactment.

For the PCHH newsletter this week, I wrote about Ari Aster’s lazy, obvious use of George Floyd’s murder in EDDINGTON and how it reminded me of that time Jordan Peele called GET OUT a β€œdocumentary.”

The May SCOTUS ruling, 9-0 that in cases against police on excessive force the CONTEXT of the situation can be admitted, may be a game changer. No immunity pertains if there was no threat. Lawsuits may begin to make PDs start handling things VERY differently.

This kind of police abuse of Black citizens is exactly why Colin Kaepernick and other Black NFL stars were taking knees during the national anthem years ago.

Truthfully, it feels more like (since Dems always think the solution is to move further right) that they wanted these laws. It’s a win/win for them bc they can say β€œwe didn’t do it, Repubs did” and enforce their own biases while shrugging and saying β€œwell, it’s law.”
