Dear Houston/Texas peeps. Most of our PBS/NPR stations are going to be okay. Look to the rural communities in LA, MS, MO, AL, NM, AZ, etc. Those stations (most got half their budgets from the CPB) service already impoverished communities.

The people who work in international education are some of the smartest, kindest, most caring people I've ever met. It makes me sadder than I can tell you to know so many people are losing not just jobs but *vocations* over this.

This is the industry my parents spent their careers in. I can tell you dozens of stories of international students who found second families, careers, and spouses because of their time at American universities. In addition to the job loss, we're gonna be poorer communally and culturally for this.

I have, on occasion, had some rough goes. You’re not alone at all. Things change, skies clear, and in the meantime— hang in there, talk to people, find what you need.

The May SCOTUS ruling, 9-0 that in cases against police on excessive force the CONTEXT of the situation can be admitted, may be a game changer. No immunity pertains if there was no threat. Lawsuits may begin to make PDs start handling things VERY differently.

This kind of police abuse of Black citizens is exactly why Colin Kaepernick and other Black NFL stars were taking knees during the national anthem years ago.

Truthfully, it feels more like (since Dems always think the solution is to move further right) that they wanted these laws. It’s a win/win for them bc they can say “we didn’t do it, Repubs did” and enforce their own biases while shrugging and saying “well, it’s law.”
