Found the time today to watch Happy Gilmore, a film I haven’t seen in probably 20 years and that I remember fondly as a pretty funny film.

Disappointed to learn it does NOT hold up at all.

Sinners I’ve been mulling over how to reviewΒ SinnersΒ for a little while now. It’s been just a few months since it premiered in theaters, and in that time, it’s become a critical darling and considered one …

I saw Sinners last month and sat on my review for a while, letting it marinate. After all, what do you say about a film that has already been dissected and fawned over by damn near everyone?

But I couldn’t get it out of my head. So, I finally found some words to talk about my love for this film.

When Everything Feels Broken Life has felt exceptionally hard in 2025. It’s been just a seemingly never-ending string of bad news, heightened stress, and an overwhelming amount of anxiety. It’s a struggle most days, to not thr…

Incredible flick! I went viral with a piece I wrote about it a couple months ago, if you haven’t read it.

Man, not sure how I feel about that Squid Game ending. Just incredibly dour stuff. Feels a bit on brand, given the nature of the show… but still. Will have to mull it over a bit.

As a guy who writes for a living, there is nothing more humbling than writing my thoughts on movies and throwing it out in the ether, only to get zero engagement. It’s even worse when you capture lightning in a bottle once. Damn does it sting.

KPop Demon Hunters When I first heard about KPop Demon Hunters, I figured that I’d avoid it. An animated film on Netflix about three women fighting demons and performing K-pop? I was pretty sure I wasn’t …

KPop Demon Hunters is a totally infectious film that pushes the boundaries of animation. And as my first real taste of K-pop, I’m hooked!

Check out my review.

For the afternoon film crowd, check out my latest on Alex Garland’s CIVIL WAR. Really enjoyed writing this, and revisiting the memories of my old Ethics in Journalism college course that it drudged up.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Alex Garland’s CIVIL WAR since I saw it last week. I skipped it when it first came out (you can’t see everything with a baby, and I thought it would be a total downer). This completely blew me away, and I’d argue it’s essential viewing in today’s world.

It’s an absolute travesty that the film isn’t available to buy physically.

To graduate with a journalism degree at University of Maryland, you need to take Journalism Ethics. A huge focus of the course revolved around photojournalism. The film brought all those memories roaring back. And Jesse Plemons, my god can he act. I was on the edge of my couch watching him.

About a year late, but finally got a chance to watch Civil War. I was completely blown away. No clue how it was received overall last year, but it really resonates in today’s world. Maybe it’s my journalism background, but I thought it really was incredible. It’s gonna sit heavy in my head for a bit

Game of the year for me. Just absolutely incredible.

Just an incredible actor. I remember holding my breath while watching Kill Bill: Vol. 2 in a completely empty theater while he performed. First time I’d seen him in anything, and he so effortlessly commanded the screen.

Finished it, loved it. @mikedrucker.bsky.social you’re a couple years older than me, but so much of the childhood years felt like it could have been my life. My stomach dropped reading the Nier chapter, I’m so sorry for your loss. Have you played Clair Obscur yet? Bet you have a great take on it.

THIS brings me back. Celebration III and the β€œ60 is the new 40!” I was a dorky senior in high school, with no clue why my dad (a supportive but slightly jealous Trekkie) thought that was so absurdly funny. Now pushing 70, he’ll occasionally tell me he hopes 70 is the new 50.

I’d argue that there was the smallest gasp of fun Batman in The Flash, but that movie had a ton of other problems.

Finally have some time off to dive into Good Game, No Rematch by @mikedrucker.bsky.social and I’m happy to report that it’s a laugh-out-loud kind of book. The Game Boy chapter… oh my gosh, I remember those days!

Love this story, seriously. Exactly what I needed right now.

I always liked the opposite of what Dad liked. He was into Star Trek, I loved Star Wars. He was into DC Comics, I loved Marvel.

But Dad introduced me to Isaac Asimov books when I was 14, and they remain some of my favorite books to this day.

(Side note: Robots and Empire needs to be reprinted!)

πŸ“½οΈ In the wake of Pope Francis’s death, I finally got the chance to see Conclave. It’s quite excellent. And as a lapsed Catholic, I was surprised at how I internalized the film’s message.

Oh, and I do discuss the twist ending so… consider this your spoiler warning.

With a 3-year-old, I feel like I get to game in 15-minute bursts (if I’m lucky). Just finished Act I in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and my jaw is on the floor. What a twist! Delightful game, and deserves all the accolades!

Fountain of Youth movie review (2025) | Roger Ebert The "Citizen Kane" of second-screen entertainment.

β€œIt is the β€œCitizen Kane” of second-screen entertainment. Every frame rewards inattention.” I reviewed Fountain of Youth. With my flamethrower. Dear lord, what a lump of nothing. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/foun...
