Took first ferry out of Split to an island I’d never heard of. I arrived at ferry dock with no idea where to go. I saw a sign saying “tourist office” and went there. Discovered room rental service. I had no plan. Spontaneous decision. Luck was that the particular room I chose was with amazing ppl.

I have traveled around five continents; I would not choose to sleep in a US train station. Also, I can’t do spontaneous travel anymore due to chronic illness and age. And OP’s response re European travel not feeling as safe for many ppl is super valid. What country/city/neighborhood?

That was a choice that I was free to make, based on my observations of the environment and my understanding of the society I was in. Again, I am not trying to say that anyone else needs to make that choice.

The Croatian family was part of a vetted room rental service operated by municipal government, not a bunch of randos. Also, “better” is a relative term. My experience was better for me at that time in my life. I’m not saying you or anyone else has to travel like I did.

People enjoy things in different ways? Spontaneous travel is higher- adrenaline. Yeah you might spend a night on a train station bench, oops, but you might luck into a homestay with a luminous, kind Croatian family who treat you like their long-lost cousin. Now I’m old, so I plan more. Both good.

A brownish grayish tabby cat with a white chest and belly sits on the top level of a gray cat tree. She is wearing a pink collar, and she has gorgeous peridot-colored eyes. Her mouth is opening in the beginning of a meow at the human who has been tardy in bringing her canned food. There is a bright yellow tennis ball by the kibble dish, which is not the cat’s.

Luna vocalizes as the wet food approaches. Note that the yellow tennis ball is not hers. It’s the dog’s. The dog never plays with it. We put it up on the cat tree so nobody would sprain an ankle on Thanksgiving. #Caturday #lunakitty #catsky
