An image of the colloquially named chocolate tube slime mold on rotting wood. The genus name is Stemonitis. It looks like brown bristles coming out of the wood. They are attached via delicate black strands to the wood. The back of the image shows a later stage of development, where the fruiting bodies have started to decompose. They are covered in white.
