Someone spent $56 without my authorization ON CE4LESS?? Did a fellow social worker steal my debit card?? So baffling, initially assumed it was auto-billing a yearly subscription fee but the amount was wrong.

My life IS great though. I love my job, I have a great marriage, I have a nice apartment close to work and amenities, my cats are cute. I saw lots of birds on my hike today. But apparently this is not enough to stop my brain from chewing on itself like an itchy dog.

I'm so good at being like "why am I having a nervous breakdown? my life is great, I have nothing to worry about" meanwhile I didn't get the loan repayment grant I applied for, my husband is partially furloughed, our hot water was out for most of the week, and my debit card information was stolen.

There's tons of research on this in school contexts (plus DV & cults as Sandy notes). The only programs that effectively address bullying 1) bolster community relationships & 2) provide explicit bystander training. Standing up to a bully/abuser runs counter to human survival instincts.

A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

After about 30 minutes I had to pee, so I walked to a nearby Mexican restaurant and told them "hey, my building's on fire, can I use your bathroom?"

A little over an hour ago our building caught on fire. It was successfully confined to two apartments, about two floors above us, but we had to throw our cats in their carriers and decamp to the other building's courtyard for a little while.

This entire article uses the phrase "higher education" when what it actually means, contextually, is "business school."

I would love for more people to know and really process that "colleges and universities" are not a thing-- it is a complex, diverse, differentiated industry in which institutions have vastly different audiences, funding, even missions.
