When We Were Shadows is an abstract expressionist painting rendered in stark monochrome. Two vague, spectral forms emerge from a hazy gray void—one dense, weighted with black pigment and elongated drips, the other lighter, dissolving into the surrounding mist. The figures feel less like people and more like impressions—emotional residues of presence now lost. The work evokes a quiet grief, a tension between what remains and what has already slipped away.
