I had...um some issues with Legacy of Ashes--the Weiner book about the CIA--but a continual complaint was From Eisenhower on basically the diminution of the freedom of intelligence services to be able to choose what to tell the president and no the other way around

I'm not sure if this is good or bad but when Seven of Nine absolutely wastes that lady, probably the ugliest moment I think I've ever seen in Trek

I think I enjoyed some of Picard more than any of the newer shows I've seen (so far, I'm only halfway through Strange New Worlds and haven't seen the Holly Hunter (!) one), but it also had many moments where I thought the flubbed an okay setup

I don't really love these movies but Gary Hustwit's design trilogy, and Room 237; can't say I enjoy them but I always think of them when I think of newer essay films

I mean I love love love F for Fake, and am literally nervously awaiting playing it in class today. I also like Chris Marker, I like Grin without a cat.

when pitching me on grad school in michigan the dean of the college said "while it not might be as big or bustling a city as Houston, he has more breweries per person, in fact it has more breweries in absolute terms than houston."

Has like a James Mason working actor will take anything and be the best thing in your crappy movie kinda vibe but then it turns out ALL his movies are like at least C+

A still from Virtuoso, Voyager 6.13, in which the doctor (Robert PIcardo) a computer program, finds his penchant for opera appreciated by an entire planet of snobs, who quickly tire of his virtuosity and move on to care about something else. I think it's a pretty good episode actually.

I was actually just rereading the Iliad/Odyssey (first translation was Samuel Butler, now I'm reading the Fitzgerald, his transliterations of the names are killing me) and Apollo is a Trojan god, and Poseidon is associated with the Ethiopians

I feel like believing in European superiority paired with any interest in the classics automatically puts you into the rank intellectual dishonesty bucket

I get where they’re coming from. I get that it might not be the best allocation of resources. I get that any benefits would come after I’m long dead. But dude you watched Star Trek too

one thing you get very strongly in Texas politics is people running for local public pool authority will campaign like they're going to personally invade Iraq
