He has stated that he is waiting for a seat in London to become free. He lives in London and the Greens actually try and get local people into constituencies rather than parachuting people in.

04.02.2026 15:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The six activists were never up on terrorism charges. Had they been found guiltily, we might be justified in calling it a "burglary organisation". As it stands, we can now refer to Palestine Action as "not even burglars"

04.02.2026 13:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A topical example would be Karen Pierce, our competent former ambassador to the USA (Grammar School girl from Preston, grandparents works in cotton mills, actually holds a postgraduate degree in diplomacy) who was pushed out to make way for Mandelson.
04.02.2026 13:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Well that's alright then, we all know Starmer is such a brilliant judge of character.
04.02.2026 13:14 โ ๐ 26 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I don't doubt that it could be done badly or that our politicians are capable of messing it up, but state action did succeed in transforming the UK from a majority renting to a majority owner occupier society between 1958 and 2003 when owner occupiers went from 38 to 70%
04.02.2026 11:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Whilst I accept that there may well be some issues whilst prices adjust, the idea that property owners will not be able to sell houses in a market where there is a housing shortage is a weird one.

30.01.2026 10:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hardly unusual though. It is the same spin Nissan used in Japan when opening their Sunderland factory and I don't think there are many who would deny that that factory has benefited both the UK and Japan.
30.01.2026 09:23 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You can spin inward investment either way. You could just as easily have said that China has allowed $15bn of its vital medicine manufacturing industry (and some of the profits arising therefrom) to be build and owned by UK companies. The reality is trade and investment is not a zero sum game.

29.01.2026 13:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The trouble is our common sense intuitive ideas of fairness and reasonable profit margins derive from how small businesses are run because we are familiar with them and we then try and apply them to big business where the ownership is separated from those who do the hard work.
29.01.2026 10:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The interest rate applied is still equal to the rate of inflation. High rates of interest were applied in this example precisely because we have had a high rate of inflation. The intergenerational unfairness arises because we had free tuition and grants, not because of how indexation works.
