New, from me: DHS says immigration enforcement employees like ICE are facing unprecedented threats and 1000% increase in assaults. But the data does not add up. Look at the details, and we see state agents using excessive force, and then lying about it.

And the same term means something entirely different in the UK. “Get out the boats! Keep Britain British!” “-dude I wanted to see if we can go fishing, not have a race war…”

And they *did* that where they arrested basically everyone and ziptied them up for hours to a small town in Idaho in earlier October. Yes, in Evanston they didn't kick in every door and detain literally every person they found. But... That's not unimaginable any more is it?

You could see that kind of escalation coming. This will get worse still. After they raided that South Shore apartment building I thought it's now a matter of time until they do this door-to-door, detain EVERYONE and check for immi status style raid at scale (city block, town, whole city).

After October 7 a lot of people raised the alarm that “soon Gaza is going to be everywhere!” The more this stuff develops, the more that sentiment seems to be an ever more horrid reality. We will be there soon too.

Oh the problem is that the Dems DO have a lot more cash on hand than the GOP - but as the whole Mothership debacle shows, that money disappears into the crevices of shady fundraising orgs. The money is THERE in theory - it's just not being used in a useful way.

While I do think there is something to the idea of the 3rd term talk being more of a tool to keep MAGA from splintering or looking for a replacement for the lame duck president.... This plus the "ballroom" thing don't seem like things someone who intends to leave this place does.

Basically, if T has the appearance of sticking around forever, MAGA will not have the need to search for a replacement. That way the cult doesn't splinter and tear itself apart (yet...).

Of course, this will bite them should he pass away... Idk. This is all super weird and terrifying.

If we want to take it at face value, people like this cannot be satisfied. Nothing is ever enough. If he CAN get infinite years of raking in cash and having his ring kissed, he'll go for it.

But I think this is actually about keeping MAGA together, so he doesn't appear like a lame duck.

That's what I thought. So this is either bloviation and/or fearmongering. And if this info comes from DHS sort of a "goal setting" thing where they WANT things to be if people let them I guess...

I do wonder if the "if the app says you're illegal that overrides any and all disagreeing documentation including your birth certificate" thing has any chance of being accurate or standing up in court. But then who knows.

...I don't think Vance is a viable replacement for taking over MAGA. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't represent an acute danger for the survival of our species.

Right, just because there is no replacement CURRENTLY doesn't mean there won't be one in the future.

And I still think Vance will be in fact more dangerous than Trump but for (slightly) different reasons and in (slightly) different ways. Greg Stillson energy.

Some guy going by Mike Black recently (his bsky has no info on what his professional affiliation or training is but he seemed well informed) did a very detailed takedown of that one on here recently and OH BROTHER does it read like a complete and utter stinker.

It's like... A new form of realpolitik. Where a new reality is created on the ground in opposition to any sort of law, based on the principle "we have the power to do it, so we do it, what will you do to stop us, cry?"

If he is still alive by then, I don't even expect them to do any sort of trick. He's just going to run and dare anyone to say he can't, and if people say he can't, he'll just keep running, get elected, throw things to his 8/1 by then SCOTUS, and be president again.

I'm NOT saying "we have vaccines and we know how to keep people from dying from it so all is fine, let'er rip!" Very much not.

But the powers that be want to eliminate even the few and inadequate defenses we have established. Block access to and research into better vaccines. Make heathcare even less affordable or even just available. Outlaw masking. For purely ideological reasons.

I don't disagree.

But my point is: vaccines work, we have treatments to fend off deaths from Covid. The excess mortality numbers have receded. But, to your point, yes people ARE still dying from it, and way too many people get it and get disabled.

Oh I know, I wasn't talking about long covid, just acute. We have a pretty good grasp from what I understand to keep people with bad ACUTE Covid from dying. But yes, we still don't know how to treat long Covid, or if that's even possible. However it seems long Covid gets less likely with vax.

On the one hand: we have vaccines and know how to treat people who get it bad. On the other hand: the powers that be are doing everything they can to block access to vaccines and make the care to treat people utterly unaffordable.

The worst. Is yet. To come.

Now is the worst of the pandemic because we are doing none of those things and just allowing reinfection after reinfection.

I would hope that at least at this point saner minds would prevail, and not get steamrolled into "Hey poindexter, stop it with the big words ok, the PRESIDENT asked you for a BIG EXPLOSION, so get going or we will find someone who will. You know what, fuck it, you're fired. YOU! Explosion. Go."
