The forgotten art of the drop goal - and how it's making a comeback
The iconic three-point skill enshrined in English sporting folklore by Jonny Wilkinson has declined in recent years. There are signs it's on its way back.
The Drop Goal
The most beautiful Catalyst that deserves love and empowerment β¨
Drop goal merchants @samdavey1993 and JΓ©rΓ΄me Bosviel walked me through it under Benjamin Lapeyre's stern gaze

If they can trim here and there, and polish a few areas before the World Cup starts, we might have something special brewing
Top entertaining rugby!

ALT: a cartoon of a man sitting at a desk with the words thank you for coming underneath him
I remember when people told me thar:
- Keenan wasn't Test Match Lions material;
- Beirne was out of form (????) and he shouldn't start;
- Finn can't steer a team towards glory (ahahahahahah)
- Huw Jones was a poor man someone else
Thank you for coming

Namibia has a good shot to win the repechage, as they will have time to course correct. However, Belgium is looking threatening at the moment... so careful.

Balancing your 23 by benching you best player is insane stuff, let me tell you.
Beirne's speed from the scrum is almost unmatched. He quickly shuts down any advantage the opposing team has from it.
Let Beirne keep his role as a massive and relentless blindside flanker

Was it fun from a stands perspective?
19.07.2025 12:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Lol, AJ, Jesus Christ. Beirne was the PoTM, and was tired after making more than 20 tackles, 3 turnovers, dismantling the Wallabies maul, and a series of big carries. And if we went with your statement that the bench was poor, Chessum was completely non existent since he was subbed in.
19.07.2025 12:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Thala, he was clearly one level or two above Gordon. I agree with your reasoning of why JS doesn't fancy him as the starting 9, but it isn't a good enough excuse for me.
The bringing impact from the bench kind of thing only works when your starting line-up does some damage as well
19.07.2025 12:13 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Also, Beirne is insanely incredible
Tuipulotu is immense
Genge isn't a bench player - stop with the 'HE WILL BE A POWER SUB' thing, please
Jamison Gibson-Park deserves to be recognised as one of the best scrum halves of the last 15 years

A few months ago, some fans (who will remain nameless) said Fin Smith (or even M. Smith) would bring more cohesion or x-factor than Finn Russell to the Lions
For those, sit down, eat your damn humble haggis 'pie' and shut up, please
Eat it, eat it whole, say thank you and relax
Finn's got this

Beirne was solid... Chessum is a good unit to come from the bench.
Lions pretty much dominated the whole game, AF knows what he is doing.

For the life of me, I don't understand how Tate McDermott didn't start
I get that Jake Gordon had a great season but McDermott is a different kind of gravy

Mosese Bason: 'We stayed in a garage for a year and walked to school but the hard work is paying off'
Now a young father himself, New Zealand U20s' Mosese Bason takes inspiration from his parents, who moved from Tonga with only NZ$70 to their name.
@jlyall93.bsky.social has been raising the commentary bar in the World Cup U20, and is also doing the Lord's work of telling the stories of some of its main superstars
Mosese Bason's story is worthy of being told, and you should give it a thorough read!

Zimbabwe's problem is the set piece. Kenya was able to cut them to shreds, and that's why I think Namibia has a pretty good shot at it. I think Namibia's player pool is decreasing by the minute and that's a worry for their future. Also not having Hardwick and Mouton was a massive blow

Last year was way worse as they didn't even make into the final. However, game quality wise, I think they are dropping year by year and I am getting worried with it.

Yeah, the mutant dinosaurs bit is something that I didn't appreciate. But it is quite ironic that they added that to the JW movies for the same reason that happens in the movie: to wow spectators. And then it becomes a nightmare.
