Doctors Without Borders Closes in Gaza City as Israel Intensifies Offensive
Doctors Without Borders pulled its staff from Gaza City as the medical system buckled. The U.N. has warned that more hospitals may have to close.
Doctors Without Borders has suspended operations in Gaza City because of the danger to its staff caused by the Israeli militaryβs ground offensive. The announcement came on the same day that the UN said four hospitals had been rendered unusable in the north of the territory over the past month.

βPresident Trumpβs cuts to humanitarian assistance abroad have hurt all kinds of people. But from what I see on the ground, those suffering the most are women and girls β and that will leave all of us, including men and boys, worse off,β @nickkristof.bsky.social writes.

βTodayβs news of an 11% decrease in the numbers of probable suicides in Scotland is good news.
βThat number represents dozens of people still alive today who might not have been in years past. This is a testament to the incredible work
happening on suicide prevention across Scotland.
βWe should celebrate but we also must remember that there is still a lot more to do.
βFar too many people still take their lives by suicide and every death in this way is a preventable
tragedy. We need to remember the impact that such deaths can have on friends, families and communities.
βThere needs to be continued funding and support for Scotlandβs suicide prevention strategy, of which Change Mental Health is proud to be one of the outcome leads for, and we must ensure that
people get the support they need, when they need it and in a way which works for them.β Nick Ward, CEO, Change Mental Health.
Today's data from National Records of Scotland has revealed 704 probable suicides in 2024, a 11% decrease from the previous year.
While we welcome this reduction, there is still a lot more to do in Scotland.

The UK needs a new electoral system β should it copy Scandinavia?
Proportional voting is, at least philosophically speaking, the best electoral system.
The countries with the highest levels of trust in, and satisfaction with, politics invariably use proportional voting systems.
Scandinavian democracies are often seen as some of the most successful in the world.
Here's what we can learn from them π
