Meet Aidan, an undergrad at the University of Minnesota. Learn about how the Northstar Promise Act has helped him to succeed as a student, and why he knows Omar Fateh is the right leader for Minneapolis.

Help us meet our September fundraising deadline! We're $5,000 away from reaching our goal of $22,000 before the end of September.

As early voting continues, we need to make sure our endorsed candidates raise enough money to fund vital campaign resources! Donate here: buff.ly/8AmUeaf

BlueSky needs image tagging or something, writing out seven candidates handles all in one post on here is so tacky...

In this campaign, we have knocked on over 12,000 doors. These conversations are where my campaign priorities come from. I have heard from you about the need for an effective and compassionate response to homelessness, addressing climate change, and building a comprehensive public safety system. That is what is driving me.

In these conversations, another issue has come up again and again. That issue is the genocide in Gaza. Ward 8 neighbor Zahra Gaal said, β€œIt's important for me that Soren talks about Gaza because I need all candidates to support ending the genocide. I also believe that candidates should speak on our tax dollars that are funding and arming the IDF. I want all candidates, including local politicians, to take meaningful action to stop the genocide, support a ceasefire, and cut our tax dollars that are funding militaries/war.”

As someone who has faced state-sanctioned violence, I can not be silent as the Israeli state, aided by the United States, commits genocide in Gaza. The war must come to an immediate end, and food and aid must be allowed unfettered access to Gaza.

We here in Minneapolis have little control over what happens in Gaza, but we do have control over what we do. The City of Minneapolis contracts with a company called Zen City, which is an Israeli security company. We must end this contract and refrain from contracting with Israeli security companies. That is what Ward 8 neighbors are asking of me, and it is the right thing to do.

Text reading: β€œEncouraged by a friend to attend a Democratic Socialists of America meeting, he went. At the meeting, he recalls, there were some disagreements among the members who favored getting involved in electoral politics and those who did not, a debate that he notes is still ongoing. But Fateh felt, then as now, that more unites than divides socialists. β€œWe debate the process” of how to build a better world, he says, β€œbut the vision is still the same.””

Text reading: β€œIn 2020, the same year that Zohran Mamdani won his state assembly seat, Fateh ran for state senate as a socialist and won. There, Fateh has been a leader in the statewide push to democratize higher education, winning tuition-free college for all students with household incomes under $80,000. Because tuition is not the only economic barrier for working class people pursuing higher education, Fateh also pushed for and won stipends for childcare, transportation, housing, and food, as well as grants for colleges to establish food pantries for students as well as mental health support. For the first time in over a decade, in a time of declining college attendance nationwide, Minnesota has seen an increase in enrollment across all its public institutions.”

"Asked what democratic socialism means to him, Fateh, whose first child was born last month, had a straightforward answer. "It’s pretty clear-cut," he said. "You want to take care of everyone."

Text reading: β€œThe son of Somali immigrants, Fateh says he grew up hearing his father talk about the US Civil Rights Movement. But like many of his generation, Fateh wasn’t engaged in politics until he was inspired by Bernie Sanders’s 2016 bid for the presidency. He remembers hearing the socialist senator and former mayor of Burlington, Vermont, speak for the first time, and β€œnot knowing what democratic socialism was, but saying, hey, I identify with everything that he’s talking about.”

"Municipal socialism is an increasingly popular idea, and not only in NYC, where Zohran Mamdani is favored to become mayor in Nov. New polling in the Mpls race for mayor shows democratic socialist challenger @omarfatehmn.com gaining on the incumbent, Jacob Frey, a centrist Democrat.”

This summer Twin Cities DSA members have talked with thousands Mpls residents about the need for a $20 minimum wage, halting rent hikes and an end to MPD assisting ICE. It's clear our neighbors want a Mpls that's affordable and accountable to us.

We fixed it for you, Strib! Sen. Omar Fateh is aiming to defeat Mpls Mayor Frey. DFLers outside the city can learn from his success. Some moderate DLFers worry they'll actually have to support unions & working class Minnesotans to win elections.

i don’t want to get too into st. paul weeds, but brian rice along with richard forschler (all of mpls founder, treasurer) and howard paster (the developer emailing the we love mpls slideshow) on a donor list is a little concerning! (more context on forschler from my blog)

Molly Coleman got a max out donation from former Mpls Police Federation lobbyist Brian Rice who spent years & years fighting every effort to rein in an out of control, violent police department.

Taking police union lobbyist money is disqualifying for any candidate. St. Paul Ward 4 deserves better.
