In this campaign, we have knocked on over 12,000 doors. These conversations are where my campaign priorities come from. I have heard from you about the need for an effective and compassionate response to homelessness, addressing climate change, and building a comprehensive public safety system. That is what is driving me. In these conversations, another issue has come up again and again. That issue is the genocide in Gaza. Ward 8 neighbor Zahra Gaal said, “It's important for me that Soren talks about Gaza because I need all candidates to support ending the genocide. I also believe that candidates should speak on our tax dollars that are funding and arming the IDF. I want all candidates, including local politicians, to take meaningful action to stop the genocide, support a ceasefire, and cut our tax dollars that are funding militaries/war.” As someone who has faced state-sanctioned violence, I can not be silent as the Israeli state, aided by the United States, commits genocide in Gaza. The war must come to an immediate end, and food and aid must be allowed unfettered access to Gaza. We here in Minneapolis have little control over what happens in Gaza, but we do have control over what we do. The City of Minneapolis contracts with a company called Zen City, which is an Israeli security company. We must end this contract and refrain from contracting with Israeli security companies. That is what Ward 8 neighbors are asking of me, and it is the right thing to do.

At the meeting, he recalls, there were some disagreements among the members who favored getting involved in electoral politics and those who did not, a debate that he notes is still ongoing. But Fateh felt, then as now, that more unites than divides socialists. “We debate the process” of how to build a better world, he says, “but the vision is still the same.””

Text reading: “In 2020, the same year that Zohran Mamdani won his state assembly seat, Fateh ran for state senate as a socialist and won. There, Fateh has been a leader in the statewide push to democratize higher education, winning tuition-free college for all students with household incomes under $80,000. Because tuition is not the only economic barrier for working class people pursuing higher education, Fateh also pushed for and won stipends for childcare, transportation, housing, and food, as well as grants for colleges to establish food pantries for students as well as mental health support. For the first time in over a decade, in a time of declining college attendance nationwide, Minnesota has seen an increase in enrollment across all its public institutions.”

"Asked what democratic socialism means to him, Fateh, whose first child was born last month, had a straightforward answer. "It’s pretty clear-cut," he said. "You want to take care of everyone."

Molly Coleman outshines Ward 4 candidates in fundraising The special election for the seat — which represents Hamline-Midway, Merriam Park, St. Anthony Park and parts of Macalester-Groveland and Como — will be held Aug. 12.

We fixed it for you, Strib! Sen. Omar Fateh is aiming to defeat Mpls Mayor Frey. DFLers outside the city can learn from his success. Some moderate DLFers worry they'll actually have to support unions & working class Minnesotans to win elections.

i don’t want to get too into st. paul weeds, but brian rice along with richard forschler (all of mpls founder, treasurer) and howard paster (the developer emailing the we love mpls slideshow) on a donor list is a little concerning! (more context on forschler from my blog)

Molly Coleman got a max out donation from former Mpls Police Federation lobbyist Brian Rice who spent years & years fighting every effort to rein in an out of control, violent police department.

Taking police union lobbyist money is disqualifying for any candidate. St. Paul Ward 4 deserves better.
