B) Looking into it how venal & grasping the organisers of “Comicons” are. We gamers are lucky.

Yes, I agree. I could add 10 years to my age my shaving my head and growing out my (exceeding grey) beard.

But why would I want to do that?

By some kind of mutation I happen to have the hair of a young woman. It’s the ONLY thing I’ve got. Let me keep it.

Looking forward to the supplements to Cörk Børd from other parts of Europe.

I’m 66 and it still hasn’t hit me.

I’m aware that the WORLD may see me as old.

But I’m not old.

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after. And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before. If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too. Saw this & thought I'd repost

A VERY interesting thought. As a designer, how many of YOUR games could be given as a standalone gift?

Thank heavens for Starter Sets, I say!

(I honestly had my #TTRPGTHOUGHTS in mind to write before I saw this today.)

There should be places left. Drop an email to The Sisters ASAP I’d advise.

If you do decide to come & you’re on your own, I’ve booked half of a 2 person lodge. (The lodges are good. Separate bedrooms, self catering etc.) I’m waiting for a lodge mate. You’re one of the people I’d want to share with.

I shouldn’t be suffering this much FOMO or be worrying about making these decisions yet. It’s not until 26/1/26.

Help me out. Advise me. There are FOURTEEN slots. Should I submit a couple of games now and sign up for a couple, just to be sure? Or hang firm and wait until the event?

Should I post my games on WarHorn? Should I sign up for some games to make sure I don’t miss out & I’ve got something to play when I get there? Shall I cross fingers & rely entirely on sign up at the event? Do I pre prepare sign up sheets, hand write them at the event or take a printer with me? 6/x

“Of course. You can use WarHorn if you want.” But sign up at the event seems to have survived, somehow, alongside it.

It’s hit that time. Though its still over 3 months off, people are posting games on WarHorn and people are signing up and games are filling up and I’m feeling FOMO.

So Cons are either WarHorn or sign up at the convention.

The contingency replaced was sign up at the con type event. Sign up on sheets in the foyer and signups called out just before each slot at MUSTER. (I loved Muster.)

But some people asked The Wyrd Sisters for WarHorn. Their answer? 4/x

Are brilliant. They do things at their cons no other con organisers do. They don‘t see problems.

There is a long running marmite divide in cons. Sign up at the convention or in advance (usually WarHorn.) I’ve seen WarHorn (and PFS) cuckoo-like invade cons and squeeze out casual games. 3/x

Contingency. End of January 2026. 5 days residential. FOURTEEN gaming slots.

As its name suggests it grew out of another earlier con which folded and was only intended to fill in the slot for a short while. Over a decade later it’s still going.

Disclaimer: People who organise TTRPG conventions are brilliant! If during my post about my planning for cons I mention anything I struggle with that’s me and not meant as any criticism of anyone involved.

I have a real conundrum.

I think you may be right.

But…..

If you can afford to go regularly, or better still, start going to a local club or get involved in a local group it’s better than nothing.

Like a nicotine patch or methodone.

Or maybe you could go to cons and then fill the time in between posting on socials………..

Does anyone know of any geek/nerd events taking place anywhere in the UK next weekend - 31st Oct, 1st Nov, 2nd Nov.

I’ve found out about 3 I’ve not been aware of in just past couple of days and I don’t want the same to happen next weekend.

And, yes, they’re so easily ‘ported into other games - as is - I’m honestly surprised no one has done it.

They‘ve Never been commented on, discussed or reviewed.

Just a wall of apathy.

I’m literally he only person that uses these storyline rules as far as I know.

Should I stop using them and quietly drop them from future editions?

The games run perfectly well without them. Even I skip them When I’m running a one hour game.

Most players seem to just ignore them. (Though the odd one seems to “get it” and really embrace them.)

In the odd occasions someone else has run a game for me (all following me on here, I think )

It’s handled entirely narratively and is basically yet another “get out of jail free card” built into a system full of them.

But they aren’t integral to the rules.

Apart from filling out the character they give creators a thread to pull on later in a series. They’re a writers’ trick.

I wanted to simulate this in my “Code” books. Every character carries sub plots. If the Players manage to “resolve” those plots, they get a bonus of some kind.
