ironically, one which will mostly paralyze people who make an effort to live in as kind and conscientious a manner as possible. as with so many of our systems, we inadvertently silence those with the most potential for good, and let ourselves be run by those who wish to abuse.

pair that with our modern-day social media panopticon - where everything you said is writ in perpetuity for judgment by your peers at any point in your life - and you've got a cocktail for the most paralyzing brand of neuroticism.

does make me wonder about the makeup of the audience for this messaging. how much of this is ragebait, how much of it is connecting with people, how much of it is just botfarms boosting each other. if i step outside will even one person be impacted by it? probably not!

see someone talking about how nostalgia's inherently evil and thinking "i don't know about that" until i learn what frame of reference inspired that thought, and remember that 99% of what people post are indeed thoughts and not proper mantras.

not being on x means i have no context for the some discourse. nostalgia's a loaded term lately - it's being used by the hitlerites to push their agenda (Same As It Ever Was!) - and yet i am unaffected because i simply have a healthy, critical relationship with that aspect of the human experience.

i love when these people justify the argument that we rhetorically give the US too much power when referring to it or its citizens with the name of a whole-ass continent.

some decent gore effects (particularly the initial transformation), inspired music choices, and a couple enjoyable setpieces. thoroughly unessential, often dull with just enough inspired moments for the rest to orbit. at its best when owning its goofiness.

i came out not disliking it thanks to a couple inspired shots and some good motorcycle mayhem at the end, but the bottle setting doesn't work due to perfunctory characters and drama. just not enough done creatively with the cinema as a setting, and the demons were functionally just zombies.

last night's movie was demons (1985), which after several classics in a row, reminded me that i do indeed have taste and do not rate every film five bags of popcorn.

im always thrilled to pull up a film on letterboxd and see that you've left a review on it. you're always thoughtful and articulate in your criticism.

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said “we should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.
