Our data show specific alterations of self-generated sensations across different sensory modalities (touch and interoception) and at different processing stages (spinal and cortical), supporting the hypothesis of schizophrenia as a self-disorder.

We also find differences in heartbeat evoked potentials, which are larger for interoceptive focus.

We find that psychosis patients exhibit more neural activity in response to self-touch in STG and a reduced difference in latencies for SEPs during self- and other-touch already at the spinal cord level.

Autonomic physiological coupling of the global fMRI signal Nature Neuroscience - The brain and body are necessarily connected. Here the authors show that brain blood flow and electrical activity are coupled with systemic physiological changes in the body.

We know that in addition to exteroceptive mechanisms, interoceptive chemosensation is also critical for regulating physiology/behavior.

We find that an enteric neuron in worms senses ingested salts via a variant ionotropic receptor (IR like the fly IRs) to regulate salt stress. 1/n

The ancient psychedelics myth: โ€˜People tell tourists the stories they think are interesting for themโ€™ The narrative of ancient tribes around the world regularly using ayahuasca and magic mushrooms in healing practices is a popular one. Is it true?

People often claim psychedelics have been used globally, for millennia, & in rituals of psychological healing.

In today's Guardian Long Read, I show what these stories get wrong & why the reality is far more interesting: www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

I also don't like the expressions "complicated" or "prolonged" grief.
The linked article was not about grief, but here is one we wrote about grief, body perception, and touch www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1...
