And he’s just asked me to change my mind and I bloody caved immediately!

Secret opinion
(Because fairly sure no one I know reads this stuff ….)
I am trying to do more of what I want or don’t want and less of what other people want me to do. I’m trying to be polite and kind but so far this week I’ve had a dear friend be rude to me and now I’ve got a sulking husband.

Good luck Erin! Thank you for standing I feel BACP needs fresh perspectives and I feel like that’s what you will bring (and more)

Agree with Joy - look for examples of where you have thought about yourself as the therapeutic instrument and what you specifically are bringing. Is it helpful/unhelpful?
Good luck!

Gerald liked to think he was at the cutting edge of modern cuisine. Recently he had embraced the trend for vegetable jellies. So far he’d achieved carrotwobbles; radishwobbles and beetrootwobbles. Flushed with success (and beetroot) he was now ready for collywobbles #wackywordwed

Mmm
Although there can be much merit in extending congruence to allow for acknowledgement of who we are that might include levels of experience… yes?

Yes me too - also over the years my notes have got much briefer I used to write reams when I started because I was so scared of missing anything out

Loved Department Q on Netflix - unusually I much preferred TV Carl to Book Carl who I thought was tiresomely sexist.
But once again fictitious representations of a therapist are very odd. One minute she’s offering therapy, the next she pretending he’s her brother and then she’s round his house!

That sounds lovely. I went to my weekly yoga class today and then an afternoon of house cleaning leaves me feeling cleared out and reset physically, emotionally and environmentally!

I like the hat ! I think about parcels wrapped up in the same paper but containing very different things.

Posts that assertively demand we all stop doing this or calling something that when no-one I know, have read or worked with have ever used these terms πŸ‘€

What is that all about?

Enlist your supervisor’s support.
Consistency is key - whatever your stated approach is needs to be demonstrated in your case study and throughout. Don’t deviate and don’t over complicate.
Good luck !

I just don’t understand when narcissistic traits became like witch burning. Isn’t it our job to work with people to help them live better lives?
I’m a CSA survivor and did my fair share of hurting myself and others when I was younger. Imagine if we were all demonised rather than supported.

I see things on social about how anxiety belongs to one generation or another and I think it’s nonsense.
All of us throughout our lives may feel anxious, overwhelmed etc. I think it’s useful to understand how age and social context impact that but not in order to take sole ownership.
Your view?

Nick I’m not being funny but I have never heard anyone ever talk about their ideal client. Am I living under a rock ?

I have a neuro divergent supervisor. She is fantastic!
I learn so much from her in many different ways but specifically:
I have learned how we build relationship together in ways that suit us both and how we can notice, discuss and learn from differences between us.

Getting sloppy with notes and all the hidden parts of our work. I always think of it as stuffing things behind cushions. They may be unseen but we know they are there generating shame….

03.05.2025 09:34 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Really relate to this. I think congruence is perhaps the hardest thing to achieve as it is inextricably linked to self awareness and self acceptance of all that we are - or at least all that we can ever truly know of ourselves

03.05.2025 09:32 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes - I’ve always thought it is the appropriate response to find what was done to me as a child to be cruel and outside of societal norms. It’s not my job to normalise it but to find ways to live with it.

When I first qualified I found it hard to admit to my supervisor that I didn’t know things ….poor woman had to put up with years of me saying β€œyes I know I know” when I very much did not know!!!
