As an MEP from 1999 until 2020, Nigel had ample opportunity to study EES regulations
2017/2226
2017/2225
2016/399
and vote on them in the EU parliament, knowing they would apply to UK citizens.
No surprises at his hypocrisy here, and the lack of accountability from UK media.

Our Peruvian visitors on visa waivers have had to present all this, including a carta de invitaciΓ³n, at check-in, and at the border in Madrid. Our UK visitors have never had to show anything at Alicante. They'll now be assessed by their EES kiosk answers and border guard if there is a complication.

I think it probably needs to be Galician.
Cantabria, Navarra as close seconds depending on how important the island aspect is. I don't know enough about Asturias, but logically it might be a contender.

Father Ted either dubbed or subtitled in Spanish is something sorely missing in the world. It's something that AI could be usefully used for before we turn it off.

They'd keep it quiet. Wouldn't even get any kudos in a conservative club meat raffle. You'd need at least a block of flats evicted, kids put into care, deposits retained and the tenants sued for redecoration. It's entry level Tory parish councillor stuff.

The same Nick Clegg who inspired Alvise Perez to become a lib dem activist when he was in the UK, between stints with UpD and C's? Mr Meta? I'd probably want to keep that kind of backstory out of the press if I was launching a political career Spain.

One thing I noticed yesterday was more Spanish speaking accounts getting sucked into all their weird behaviour. They might need to diversify the casual racism and go multilingual soon.

System 'not fit for purpose', says Reid The home secretary, John Reid, today admitted that the beleaguered immigration directorate was 'not fit for purpose' - and warned that people are likely to be sacked over the foreign prisoners fiasco.

Having lived in both, they're definitely very different to eachother. Valencia is part of the modern world. Alicante is disorganised, s-l-o-w and has probably had a beer and a brandy by 11am.

I'm not. I'd probably set up a citizens forum led, on a daily rotating basis, by the members of Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead, repeating a mantra of

No
They aren't interested
No
No
No
Why the fUK would they?
No
No
No
This is really tedious
No
No
Ask David Davis to explain it all to you again

Would the EU waste so much effort on another CH style web of agreements?
EEA with the agreement of Norway, Iceland, EU27 + Lichtenstein would be more likely.
You're right, but the UK might only spend 9 more years arguing about it internally before they come up with something unacceptable. Again.

05.08.2025 21:04 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

Well keep encouraging people to waste time on unrealistic end results then.
The UK's options are:
1.A49, without opt outs
2.EEA, while it still exists
3.Do nothing
4.Spend decades debating opt outs + EU treaty amendments which aren't going to happen but will keep you occupied while 3 continues.

Having just returned from the UK, permit me to make a few observations.

Dear Brits:

Let your politicians know that the geopolitical, economic, and social landscape has changed a lot since early Brexit.

As an exercise in self-harm, it's run its course. Return to the EU, ASAP.

It's an imaginary negotiation process, that is simply wasting time in the UK.

All the other applications are a good clue. Maybe Turkey is still trying to negotiate, mainly with itself.

05.08.2025 10:03 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The UK would be applying to join the EU. The only negotiation is how and when the applicant is going to complete all the legal and economic milestones required to be accepted. If the UK has aspects of EU membership it doesn't want to participate in, it doesn't really want to join.
