Dans cette alternative, des injections de particules sont faites dès la naissance dans le corps des nouveaux nés : cette injection leur permet par la suite de générer de l’énergie par photosynthèse. Le revers de la médaille cependant : les émotions sont désormais visibles sur la peau une fois la nuit tombée. Les couleurs jaillissent alors dans l’obscurité. Une mauvaise émotion rend son propriétaire sujet aux discriminations. On suit pendant quelques jours Andee, une jeune fille qui à des difficultés à rester au vert.
