Just walked home from dinner (mee goreng sambal - delicious like everything here). Wrote the above.

And as required by the laws of the internet, what had been a breezy comfortable night to walk home in just became a torrential downpour.

Without a temperature drop.

Moved to Malaysia in May. (From the perfect weather of coastal California) I love it here, truly. But the temperature never drops 8Β°. Ever.

Come to Sarawak, you'll love it. And, you'll sweat.

47 countries before I found The One. Gonna stay here for a decade.

AMA.

That's the PM version. The AM version uses breakfast sausage links.

The AM Special adds scrambled eggs and Tabasco.

I look forward to seeing this in a Waffle House very soon.

(And that's a bittersweet thing as I'm close to 9,000 mi away to the nearest waffle House in Goodyear, Arizona. Sigh.)

Just watched the video of twist my sobriety for the first time. I was married to a Bolivian woman for a dozen years. I recognize that scenery and world immediately. Beautiful place full of amazing people.

Like Titicaca is worth a visit. The Alta Plano is stunning.

Various - Lesbian Favorites: Women Like Us View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the 1997 CD release of "Lesbian Favorites: Women Like Us" on Discogs.

That whole first album was amazing.

Even as a completely straight dude, this remains one of my favorite albums of all time:

I remember Twist in My Sobriety but lost track of her.

Time to get my headphones out and reacquaint myself with her.

"Pregaming the prize that matters"

Headline in the Financial Times.

"Pregaming the prize that matters" Headline in the Financial Times.

Finally a truthful article about the Nobel Prizes.

Economists, including me, really are weirdos.

A full moon just beginning to peek out of a set of clouds well above the horizon. A momentary site that I just managed to connect with a la Mr. Adams.

But a much more urban environment than rural New Mexico

My cracked ribs went on each side. Two different occasions required a reasonable painkiller to sleep. Tramadol was my go-to.

In this case, Aleve or naproxen sodium was perfectly adequate.

I should note I have a very firm mattress here too. Which I'm still adjusting to after 5 months

Borneo rocks!

Well kudos to him for being able to tie his shoes and his bow ties. I mean it is exactly the same knot.

Just like any other rib injury, you just live with it.

I've broken ribs before and this was far less painful.

If you Google popped rib you'll see what happened. It's not all that uncommon.

It took her two good pushes to do it. There's definitely a popping noise.

Did the cupping (a) feel good and (b) produced a good outcome?

I live in Southeast Asia and cupping and something called scraping or on the menu and I'm giving them some consideration

It's all fun and games until one of those tiny Asian lady pops one of your ribs.

85 lb woman didn't crack a rib but caused one to pop out of the cartilage in front.

Far less painful than a broken rib or torn intercostal soft tissue. But 3 and 1/2 to 5 weeks of miserable sleep.

I think that means it's not a clip-on at least. Because I can't imagine how you could clip on and be beneath the collar.

Clip-ons have no place in the modern world. If you can't tie a bow tie, you can't wear a bow tie.

And you should be wearing slippers as well.

Until Pizarro showed up. With 172 men and guns, he ransomed the Inca Altuhuapa for two rooms of silver and one of gold. Once the incans had paid, they killed the Inca anyway.

They overthrew 10,000 men simply because they had guns and horses. And were greedy assholes.

An empire bigger than Rome.

12.10.2025 10:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

What this ended up doing was creating villages where there was no substantial group of people from a common origination. Which meant that it was very difficult for anyone to get together with previous enemies to form an uprising against the Inca.

It was profoundly effective

Just for those not in the know, when the Inca conquered new territory. They lined people up and made them count to 10 just like the Romans. But instead of killing every 10th person, they send all the ones to one village, all the twos to another village and so on

The Hallmark of Trumpism.

So fucking much winning. So damn many best people.

Me, seeing Pink Floyd at the Rosemont Horizon in the late '80s....

" Whoa, dude. Look at that floating pink pig!"

As they were starting to play a few songs from Animals... And I was just a tad stoned.

Okay, maybe more than a tad...

The view from balcony in my new outdoor chair. The handrail is basically obscuring the last 200 to 300 m of the Miri River (Sungai Miri).

From the foreground to the background is a handrail protective class fencing, then 200 m of trees with a little bit of the Pullman hotel visible followed by the tail end of the river and then the South China Sea.

It's rather pleasant.

Vitamin D uptake... But conveniently shaded

It's been too much time on the couch reading. So I thought I need to do something better than that.

Bought myself a fancy outdoor lounge chair at a nearby store for $125 bucks and put it on the balcony.

Now I'm going to spend my time outside reading. This is my view

Not bad.

Not until you actually learn the art and science of racing. Pretty colors and great drivers ain't enough.

Figure it out and get it together.

Your laurels mean nothing.
