I auditioned for celebrity @thetraitors.bsky.social but I didn’t get it for some reason, so thought I’d share my audition.

I was in the London Bridge attacks and there was a guy in the pub accidentally shot in the head by police. Having been in that situation I can totally understand this - it's incredibly chaotic, it's impossible to know what's happening and mistakes are very easy, and often fatal.

My favourite Barry Cryer story is his account of Nicholas Parsons asking Ross Noble who his favourite comedian was. "Richard Pryor" Noble replied, "Genius! So sad he set himself on fire while freebasing crack cocaine".

Parsons, visibly upset, asked Barry later: "did you hear about Richard Briers?"

Yeah it's terribly sad. To see a mind decline on paper like that was so hard, although of course nothing compared to what he must have been going through.

I dunno, the last Tiffany Aching I thought was very mixed. But the Witches and Guards series are just amazing. The characters just shine through.

Used genuinely too many times - that'll be the wine...

I genuinely don't know how he does it, but for me he has the shortest path between words on a page and images in my mind of any author.

I genuinely think he'll be remembered for generations - I used to think my childish fanboyism was just that, but on every re-read his clarity of thought and insane ability to narrate a film *directly into my brain* is unparalleled.

His early stuff isn't great and in a way it's amazing that he got the time and space to clearly grow as a writer. His last stuff was understandably very mixed (and deeply sad). But the middle period *chefs kiss*

I'd go "Guards, Guards" (precursor to Feet of Clay) -
feels like a police procedural so familiar, but actually a work of demented genius.

Lots of this comes from media but at root, it’s a bitter resentment of people they have seen in their own lives, to whom they feel massively superior: relatives with chaotic lives, disrespectful children, lazy coworkers with vexatious complaints, and so on. These are the core experiences.

This made me laugh for about a month...
