4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

Excellent essay by @billmckibben.bsky.social on solar saving the world. #energysky www.newyorker.com/news/annals-...

Voters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, create a local clean energy utility The municipal effort aims to supplement utility DTE's grid with local, reliable, clean energy at below-market rates.

Tomorrow, I'm talking with folks in Ann Arbor, Michigan, about their new clean-energy utility, which is operating alongside (rather than replacing) big utility DTE.

Got any questions?

Republicans' strategy is to retreat from these technologies so we're not buying them from China, doubling down on 20th Century fossil technologies. But you know who's buying those technologies from China? EVERYONE ELSE! If we squash domestic industries, China becomes the global superpower (6/8)

Per @ER: "The US has spent nearly $1 trillion on disaster recovery and other climate-related needs over the 12 months ending May 1, according to an analysis released Monday by Bloomberg Intelligence. That’s 3% of GDP that people likely would have spent on goods and services they’d prefer to have […]

A carbon-free, load-following electric supply resource sits literally right below our feet β€” the earth’s heat, which radiates continuously from the earth’s core. Entrepreneurs are quickly figuring out how to tap it. πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘

One of DOE's high-level conclusions is that AI data centers are exacerbating resource adequacy challenges. If that's true, DOE's report heightens the need for new rate designs and tariffs that force data centers to pay for the costs they're imposing on the bulk power system.

Here's the Dept of Energy's new report on resource adequacy, that was mandated by an April Executive Order -- www.energy.gov/sites/defaul...

DOE's recent "emergency" orders will be challenged in court. This document does nothing to bolster the legal defensibility of future "emergency" orders.

The Most Perverse Part of the β€˜Big, Beautiful Bill’ The Republican megabill could be setting America up for the worst energy-affordability crisis since the 1970s.

"It’s hard to think of a bigger self-own. We’re effectively raising taxes on the country’s main sources of new power at a time when electricity prices are already rising,” @jessedjenkins.com told RogΓ© Karma: www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc... πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘

Poorest Americans Dealt Biggest Blow Under Senate Republican Tax Package

With the House bill now passed, I wanted to re-up two important stories:

The bill benefits the rich, and inflicts deepest harm on the poorest Americans, data show www.nytimes.com/2025/07/01/b...

The deep federal aid cuts will not arrive immediately. A timeline: www.nytimes.com/2025/07/02/u...

"Alligator Alcatraz" is wrong and media should not use it. It's propaganda. Alcatraz held people convicted of crimes, particularly violent crimes.

The Florida camp holds people *not* convicted of any crime. If they had been, they'd be in prison elsewhere.

The site is a textbook concentration camp.

How the Senate GOP’s New Tax on Renewables Could β€˜Kill’ the Industry As bad as previous drafts of the reconciliation bill have been, this one is worse.

Republicans are now suddenly planning to TAX renewable energy, transforming the repeal of the IRA from a challenge to a full-blown crisis for American solar and wind.

I spent the last 24 hours putting this story together to explain why.

Please share! This is really important!!!

'I was shocked': Melbourne man's 'unbelievable' find after buying house Daniel Xu has loved trains since he was a child. In a surprising twist of fate, he now lives above an extensive hobby train network set.

Here’s something delightful. New homeowners in Melbourne found an extensive model train setup under the floor after they move in.

Huh, turns out everything Republicans said about "all of the above" energy strategy was bullshit meant to manipulate Democrats until they could take power and crush renewables! The key is for all political analysts to immediately forget this so that we can be surprised again the next time.
