Text-heavy and colorful infographic titled BREAKING NEWS CHECKLIST with
6 tips on "What to do when information is scarce, falsehoods are rampant
and the story is still unfolding" 1 Mind the gap: Keep in mind that
there’s often a gap between what the public wants to know and the verified
information available. Unconfirmed or completely bogus content often rushes in
to fill that gap. 2 Beware bad actors: Remember that bad actors often
capitalize on breaking news situations to spread falsehoods for easy likes and
shares. 3 Do a quick search: This is often your best defense against
misinformation. 4 Look for evidence: Claims that make bold assertions but
provide no links or other evidence should always be approached with caution. 5
Seek credible sources: Be intentional about looking for credible news and not
relying on social media algorithms to bring you updates. 6 Practice patience:
Quality journalism and verification take time. Be ready to follow news
developments over time.
Reminders for following a breaking news story like the shooting of Charlie Kirk in Utah ⤵️
⚠️ Bad actors & opportunists often use such moments when information is being gathered & fact-checked to recklessly push unverified claims & conspiracy theories.

Why Transit In Oakland Sucks
If we aren't serious about rapidly expanding public transit, just eliminating parking requirements won't eliminate the need for parking.
darrellowens.substack.com/p/why-transi... @transitriderseb.bsky.social @therealjeanwalsh.bsky.social I'm fortunate to live near the MLK and San Pablo corridors, but how can we make transit a bigger funding priority for the East Bay?

They said before the term started, pick what you pay attention to. There will be so much bad stuff so don't get distracted, they said. Focus on the important things.
But what if the things I picked are: Democracy, a functioning government, profound threats to the constitutional order??

Growing up in the church, I feel like the only things Jesus spoke clearly about were the dangers of those in power and the wealthy. And here we are, the wealthy are in power.
It's going to be a mind numbingly long 4 years.
Let us not grow weary.

And then I realized, it's not that Biden embodies "American values" more than Trump. In our history, there's nothing more American than the robber baron/tycoon/magnate, and government helping him along the way.

These CEOs never cozied up to Biden because by comparison, he was not trying to curry their favor. His administration was more focused on protecting citizens from businesses extracting profit at our individual expense.

It was jarring to see tech leaders attending as honored guests, because I thought they had a duty to be apolitical. But I realized, CEOs are only beholden to their stakeholders. When kowtowing to Trump ensures the government will not meddle, corporations will gladly bend the knee.

I'm trying to process today's events and the sense of dread I have for the next 4 years.
First, the Democrats couldn't figure out how to beat this guy. That's a huge indictment on them, but maybe it also tells us about the enduring sway that grievance and race have, and will always have.

Of all the things that bother me about the incoming administration (and there are a lot), the one that really annoys me is the stupid doge office. What a waste of everyone's time, money, attention, and especially, my energy being annoyed at it.

I used to really like the Atlantic but am finding more of their recent contributors a bit lacking. Any other sources you'd recommend that are what the Atlantic used to be?

I think the humility with which he approached the subject is remarkable as well. Not "this is junk science" but "maybe there's something I don't understand so I will exercise caution"
