I haven't seen any precedent or evidence to suggest that unilaterally disarming would have an impact on others to do the same. Do I want a world without nuclear weapons? Yes, absolutely! Come up with a policy that might lead to that without our being left powerless and I'll happily support it.

Easily soluble by providing public funding for parties, which they top up with private individual donations (£1k limit). Alternative is the obscene situation where a billionaire funds a party £10M, the same as 10,000 people giving £1,000. Cost to public purse is a tiny price to pay for democracy.

It works for me! Although judging by the comments, I'm not sure the joke was universally understood.

Why so timid? Why allow any donation over, say, £1,000 from any individual or company, foreign or domestic? I don't understand how a democracy can accept the buying of influence.

And just because there are other causes of negative experiences of childhood is not a reason to fail to address this one.

I don't agree with a ban on SM for under 16s because of it's social benefits (including an avenue for creativity). But the highly damaging addictive nature must absolutely be addressed, somehow decoupling companies' business models from numbers of clicks, putting in limits etc.

This misses possibly the worst impact on kids - the addictive doomscrolling that destroys ability to concentrate, provides constant dopamine hits, saps kids' energy and time they would otherwise be using creatively or playing outside.

It removes the huge business rates advantage online companies have; it supports small companies which a) pay tax unlike Amazon, b) employ more people and c) prevent a concentration of wealth; it supports thriving communities and the arts - a massive contributor to happiness and mental health.

3) introduce community spaces, youth clubs, art and music events. In other words, make high streets a thriving community destination people want to go to with interesting independent shops and restaurants and things to do with a human element that can't be replicated online.

How about: 1) 3% additional VAT on online purchases from large companies to reduce business rates to zero for small independent high street shops and restaurants; 2) very high business rates for empty shop units, forcing commercial landlords to reduce rents to become affordable...

Certainly it provides no justification of the government using X as a dissemination channel. For that, you'd need to know how many real UK people view each government Tweet on average. Anyone care to guess what that number might be?

The government corrected figure is such a pointless statistics. Firstly, what does it mean for a 'family' to use X as a source? Secondly, without some idea of how regularly and extensive the usage is, what have we actually learned?
