Shouting into the void: Commander decks over the years have featured oversized commanders, which I don't get, and thick commanders, the same size as the actual commander card. But since they can do an alternate, not-legal commander, could we start getting some lenticular cards or something neat?

What's the most absurd hoop you've jumped through in a game of Magic, just for laughs or to style on the table with something amazing?

I'm thinking back to an April Fools acorn commander game where my buddy pulled off Battle of Wits by bringing multiple other decks into the game and combining them.

Second time I've had this recommended to me, I guess I need to dedicate some time to watching!

Hear me out: for Universes Beyond, keep the ones that really don't have a Magic vibe like Spider-Man or Doctor Who to commander decks, scene boxes, and the like.

While I don't *love* UB in standard, mostly due to the prices, I don't mind as much if we get, say, Elder Scrolls rather than Marvel.

And they’re so expensive! Remember when commander decks were like $35? Tons of new people wanted to play Final Fantasy and I just could not recommend them a good way to get in.

Yep. Someday it’ll go into a Derevi tap/untap deck. Game ender right there. Just not sure for who.

Yeah it always comes back to what if we could just do what we’re passionate about and that was enough to give us a living wage. Even you and I with “dream jobs” aren’t totally in control. Maybe what I really want to give to the world is interpretive dance or something!

It feels a bit like Temple of the False Gods in the fact that I really don't need this for a while, but it's great later.

I know this isn't a great card early game, but I'm still kind of surprised that this card doesn't see more play. I only ran across this because of its new printing.

Oooh I see what you mean. Yeah I’ve seen some precons use full art lands in the normal frames. Some basics and wastes are like that. Sadly those will look like normal lands to all but the most dedicated observers, and I want my opponents to recoil in horror as often as possible. 😂

A few weeks ago, I wrapped up MarcCon 2025, a mini Magic convention I organized for my 40th birthday.

A secret goal I set for myself: dust off my CE Black Lotus and surprise slam it in its first in-game appearance… but only by copying a friend’s Garth One-Eye commander.

Rankle’s obnoxiously mismatched manabase update. Each and every swamp must tilt someone somehow. It has become an exercise in creativity. If 1 is “white-bordered”, and 10 is “Black Lotus but sharpied over to say Swamp”, I think I’m operating at like 2-6. We can go deeper.

Are you finding that the selection is basically the same? I haven’t tried anything Apple related since the period between Napster and Pandora where I apparently bought a number of albums on the first iPhones.

I’ve listened to the audiobook twice in the last two years, and I highly recommend it some time after you finish. They had to do some audio magic to account for certain parts of the book. Excited for the movie next year!

I’m sure the input is fun and challenging, but it’s the upkeep that would kill me 💀 I can’t even be bothered to sort all of the new cards by set and number, let alone enter them online 🥲

Ah, the era where they said each episode would be kind of its own movie. Production quality jumped, got some real fun episodes out of it.
