I think the biggest concern for state censorship comes from the consolidation of communication to a few all purpose platforms to begin with. How they moderate is just downstream of that. It’s why I think the forum model pre-social media is what we need to look back to for inspiration.

I think that the pretense of minimal moderation is what gives cover to stuff like Musk’s abuse of Twitter, because you can’t have truly transparent moderation there unless you acknowledge the human decision making component rather than deflect it into nonexistence based on a vague ToS

Learn from the internet pre-social media. The key to successful moderation is having a trustworthy moderation team that feels appropriately accountable to the community. Everyone wants to make ostensibly unmoderated spaces with hard objective boundaries and it doesn’t work & has never worked.

This is even worse than the “how to read 50 books a day” guys who spend all day skimming self help slop.

I think it’s great that Silksong has a wealth of hidden content and I think it’s smart to gate the third act behind exploration and side quests but they probably could have set the threshold at like, 70% of what they did.
